Tay Yen Commune Party Committee promotes heroic tradition

According to Decision 2083-QD/TU of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, Tay Yen commune was established on the basis of merging 3 communes: Tay Yen, Tay Yen A and Nam Yen.

Secretary of the Tay Yen Commune Party Committee, To Thanh Doan, said: “In the past term, the Commune Party Committee developed 148 new Party members, bringing the total number of Party members to 1,073 comrades, becoming the core force of local leadership. Inspection and supervision work was also strengthened, maintaining Party discipline.”

On that solid foundation, Tay Yen focuses on implementing the goal of improving people's lives, associated with sustainable socio-economic development. By the end of the 2020 - 2025 term, the value of agricultural - forestry - fishery production and construction industry of Tay Yen commune reached 2,731 billion VND; total retail sales and service revenue reached over 2,190 billion VND.

Rice and aquaculture are still the key industries, the structure of crops and livestock is towards high-quality goods, rice output reached nearly 53,200 tons, exceeding the resolution target for the 2020 - 2025 term.

The collective economy has been given attention and development conditions by the Party Committee and the Tay Yen Commune Government, with 14 cooperatives and 29 cooperative groups operating effectively. Director of Bao Tram Agricultural Cooperative Ngo Tran Khai informed: "By joining the cooperative, members are supported with farming techniques and output linkages, so they can feel secure in production."

In fact, when joining cooperatives, farmers not only receive technical support, but also benefit from state-invested irrigation works such as dams and pumping stations. Thanks to that, rice production is more stable, costs are reduced, and efficiency is increased.

From this foundation, Bao Tram Agricultural Cooperative built a clean rice production chain, signed a contract with businesses to purchase rice. The rice produced was purchased at a price 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg higher than the market price, people's lives became more and more stable, and the Tay Yen rice brand gradually affirmed itself in the market.

New rural appearance

A notable mark of Tay Yen’s past term is the achievement in building new rural areas. Before the merger, Tay Yen commune was recognized as a new rural commune, while Tay Yen A and Nam Yen communes were recognized as advanced new rural areas.

The total mobilized capital reached over 100 billion VND, of which the State invested 84.3 billion VND, enterprises and people contributed over 3.6 billion VND. Thanks to that, over 65km of rural roads were concreted, 46 new bridges were built; 100% of households used the national grid, over 99% of households had clean water.

Walking along the inter-hamlet road, it is easy to see a straight, green hedge of hibiscus trees in front of the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Chi (78 years old), residing in Tay Yen commune. Mr. Chi said: "The hedge of trees not only beautifies the hamlet but is also a way for us to join hands with the commune in building a new countryside. Everyone wants a clean, beautiful, civilized village for their future generations to be proud of."

Mr. Chi also reiterated that thanks to the timely policy of the Commune Party Committee, people have boldly converted production from unstable two-crop rice cultivation to the "1 shrimp - 1 rice" model, with profits 3-4 times higher per year.

Poor households received gifts.

Poor households are supported by the locality to borrow preferential credit to improve their living conditions. This has contributed to reducing the poverty rate from 4.56% in 2020 to 0.94% in 2025. A typical example is Ms. Thi Ngoc, who was once a poor household and was able to borrow money to raise pigs and shrimp. Now her family's economy is stable, her husband has a small boat to buy seafood, and her life is more prosperous.

Ms. Ngoc shared: “Without the capital that the Party and the State care for, my family would hardly have what it has today. From a poor household, now I raise pigs and shrimp, take care of my children's education, and life is much easier.”

Along with economic development, Tay Yen Commune Party Committee pays attention to the cultural and social fields. Up to now, 10/13 schools have met national standards, commune health stations have met standards, 96% of people participate in health insurance. The rate of households achieving cultural titles is over 96%. National defense and security are maintained, military recruitment has reached 100% of the target.

With the achieved results, Tay Yen Commune Party Committee determined that in the 2025 - 2030 term, it will continue to build a clean and strong political system; promote the strength of great national unity; effectively mobilize investment resources. The target by 2030 is that the average income per capita will reach 95 million VND/year, the economic growth rate will be 9.5%/year, and the poverty rate will decrease to 0.8%.

"To achieve the above goal, the Party Committee of the commune has identified three breakthroughs, including mobilizing all resources to invest in socio-economic infrastructure, especially transportation and electricity; comprehensive agricultural development, application of science and technology, building product brands associated with eco-tourism and community; at the same time, strengthening human resource training, promoting digital transformation, striving for over 90% of people and businesses to use online public services," affirmed Secretary of the Party Committee of Tay Yen commune, To Thanh Doan.
