On the eve of the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, his health was not good. He had to go to the hospital for treatment many days and we knew we should not bother him to talk for long like usual. In his working life, growing up from a miner in the Quang Ninh coal mine to holding a very high position in the Party, Mr. Pham The Duyet left his mark in many periods and many things. There were very difficult things that he successfully accomplished, and will certainly be mentioned for a long time to come as a great lesson in listening to the people's thoughts and aspirations to thoroughly resolve people's and national affairs.

Since then, the Great Unity Day in residential areas has had the participation of high-ranking leaders of the Party and the State, people from all residential areas across the country participating in a common activity, bonding, solidarity, many places even had the initiative to have a solidarity meal, truly a festival. The Great Unity Day in residential areas has been built very carefully. I personally went to each residential area, went to Bom Bo hamlet, to the residential area in the industrial zone The whole church in Dong Nai , went to the ethnic minority areas in the Central Highlands, went to the very difficult areas to build the movement..."
Talking about the difficulties and challenges of the current work of the Front, Mr. Pham The Duyet said: “The Front must say things that have not been said yet, must say new things that have not been mentioned. Saying is to have a direction to solve, to have positive solutions, to help the Party, to help the country's leaders see what the whole people are expecting. I do not say that the role and position of the Front is high or low, but the Front is the representative of the whole people and must express the fullest voice of all classes of people. Pay attention to the issues that the people need, the people are interested in, how the Front participates in Party building, building the government to do a good job of supervision and social criticism. The voice of the Front is a voice in the spirit of construction”.
Many times while answering the press, Mr. Pham The Duyet has been concerned about the fact that recently a series of leading cadres (including very high-ranking cadres) have been disciplined, even prosecuted. So with such a situation, how can the Front promote its role in supervising cadre work and participating in building a strong Party and government? As someone who always asks this question, Mr. Pham The Duyet said that from the perspective of someone who has worked in the Front and the Party, he thinks that the Party must, through the Front, really care about the people's assessment of cadres. If there is a straightforward approach, then surely the people and Party members at the grassroots level will have very good opinions about cadre work. “If we promote cadres only based on the organization’s procedures, there will certainly be limitations. There are good things, but it is not easy to say that we are assured. Therefore, there must be supervision and criticism. Social supervision and criticism is to help the Party, through the eyes and ears of the people, see that this cadre is not worthy and that one is good,” said the former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
According to Mr. Duyet, especially through the consultation sessions, the Front must clearly demonstrate its responsibility in selecting worthy people for the highest authority, the National Assembly. If the Front does the right thing and does it well, the Party will recommend it, but the Front must be responsible for the assessment, for listening to the people's opinions through the three consultation rounds, and to see through the consultation rounds what the people really think about the officials. "Here I emphasize the word really, but if all the steps are done properly, according to the rules, according to the procedures, then it will have results as we have seen, where there are people who have made mistakes, who do not have the qualities and abilities, but are still recommended and elected as National Assembly deputies" - Mr. Pham The Duyet emphasized.
