Although he has several years of experience growing commercial orange trees for income, Mr. Vuong Van Ty, in Khuoi Meo hamlet, Sang Moc commune (Vo Nhai) was quite surprised to learn that his experience was outdated. When participating in a vocational training course organized by the District's Center for Agricultural and Rural Development in 2022, Mr. Ty was able to acquire new knowledge and immediately apply it to this year's orange production season.

Sharing with us, Mr. Ty said: I have grown over 500 orange trees, Vinh orange trees, each year generating an income of about 20 million VND/year. This year, with new knowledge, I expect the oranges to have more fruit, higher quality and reach an income of over 25 million VND.

Along with Mr. Ty, each year, an average of over 300 farmers in the mountainous district of Vo Nhai participate in vocational training courses according to their needs organized by the district's Vocational Training Center. From 2017 to present, the Vo Nhai Vocational Training Center has organized nearly 60 vocational training classes for over 1,700 rural workers with a total budget of nearly 3 billion VND with main occupations such as: Economic forest planting; raising chickens, pigs, buffaloes, cows; repairing agricultural machinery, growing safe vegetables, industrial sewing, using veterinary medicine...

Since the beginning of the year, the Center has organized 11 vocational training courses for 330 rural workers in a number of occupations such as: Mushroom growing and breeding, tea processing, citrus growing... The funding for the courses is up to nearly 1.4 billion VND from the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas and the local budget.

According to the assessment of the People's Committee of Vo Nhai district, through the courses, over 90% of the students have jobs and know how to apply the knowledge they have learned to actual production and business in their localities and families. The results of vocational training for rural workers of the Center have also contributed positively to increasing the rate of trained workers in the area. Up to now, Vo Nhai district has had over 27.1 thousand trained workers, accounting for 59.58% of the total workforce. Of which, over 17.4 thousand workers have been granted diplomas and certificates, accounting for 38.22% of the total workforce, an increase of 25.72% compared to 2011.

Mr. Vu Phong Son, Deputy Director of Vo Nhai Vocational Training Center, said: In addition to centralized training, we organize mobile classes in communes and hamlets... Rural workers participating in vocational training are fully equipped with knowledge according to the training profession, directly participate in practice, apply in production, receive career counseling, find jobs, or create their own jobs. For non- agricultural occupations, the Center has close contracts with businesses to ensure jobs for students after training. In addition, the Center also focuses on investigating and surveying vocational training needs, labor market needs, linking vocational training with job creation...

According to Mr. Son, in 2024, Vo Nhai district aims to provide vocational training for 330 rural workers from ethnic minorities. To achieve this goal, the Center will continue to survey and synthesize vocational training needs; strengthen coordination in organizing vocational training classes in line with the needs of workers and employers...
