Ho Chi Minh City public 10th grade entrance exam questions are suitable for the new program

The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam will take place over 2 days, with exam questions updated to suit the new curriculum, reducing competitive pressure.

On the afternoon of June 7, the 10th grade entrance exam for public schools in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2025-2026 school year was completed.

The exam takes place over 2 days, June 6-7, with 3 compulsory subjects: Literature (120 minutes), Foreign Language (90 minutes) and Math (120 minutes).

Candidates wishing to enter specialized grade 10 or integrate additional subjects must take the corresponding exam, with a test time of 150 minutes.

The exam was held at 142 exam sites (132 regular sites and 10 specialized sites); 9,548 teachers were mobilized to invigilate the exam and 1,846 support staff were mobilized; facilities at the exam sites, security procedures were implemented similarly to the high school graduation exam.

This year, the increase in the enrollment rate for public 10th graders in Ho Chi Minh City has also somewhat reduced the pressure on candidates taking the exam.

There were more than 76,100 candidates participating in the annual exam (of which, more than 5,550 students took the specialized exam, 1,169 students took the integrated exam), the total enrollment target for grade 10 of public high schools in the City was 70,070 students.

Thus, this year's exam had about 6,000 candidates who failed, a sharp decrease compared to the approximately 20,000 students who failed the exam in recent years.

However, competition to get into specialized schools and top schools is still quite intense.

With the nature of an entrance exam, this year's Ho Chi Minh City public 10th grade exam continues to attract the attention of society and parents, especially in the context of the first year of the exam according to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program.

The new program aims to assess students' abilities and ability to apply learned knowledge to solve problems and real-life situations. Therefore, this year's exam has changed both in structure and requirements to increase practicality.

In Literature, both teachers and students evaluated the questions as having high openness, close topics, and the structure of the questions closely following the sample questions previously announced by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.

The test is not too difficult, but requires students to have a solid grasp of knowledge, test-taking skills and an understanding of social life.

Mr. Vo Kim Bao, Literature teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), said that the structure of the exam closely follows the sample exam and is trained by teachers a lot, so students will certainly not be surprised by the types of questions in the exam.

The structure and content of the exam ensure the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program, suitable for students, regardless of which book series they study, they can meet the requirements of the exam well.

The test covers a wide range of content to comprehensively test the knowledge that students have learned in the program. Focusing on developing the qualities and abilities of the learner, the questions in the test do not require students to memorize but require real skills and abilities in solving the problems presented in the test.

The test is highly differentiated, clearly shown in question 1d (understanding of social life), question 2 part 1 (literary experience, language ability and creativity), question 2 part 2 (understanding of social life).

According to Mr. Bao, the special feature of the Literature exam in Ho Chi Minh City is that the exam is always structured according to the topic. Thanks to that, students can have more logical thinking and be more proactive in the process of doing the test.

The theme of this year's exam is about the Journey to Adulthood, which is very close and suitable for the students' age.

With the high openness of the question, students will not feel pressured but will have many good, unique and creative ideas while doing the test.

This exam promises to have innovative, creative articles with attractive and impressive content.

However, this topic is not easy to get a high score because there is a very clear differentiation.

Regarding the Math exam, out of a total of 7 questions, 4 questions incorporate real-life situations; the content of statistical probability appears for the first time in the exam but is not difficult and requires students to read the exam carefully.

Many teachers and candidates commented that this year's Math exam was less demanding than last year's, the structure of the exam was similar to the sample exam that the City Department of Education and Training announced, in line with the requirements of the 2018 General Education program.

Candidates have had time to practice so they are not surprised by this type of question this year. The practical math question has been issued by Ho Chi Minh City for many years now so students are familiar with it.

According to Ms. Nguyen Tien Thuy, a Math teacher at Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Binh Thanh District), the test has easy questions, and average students can get full marks if they do the test carefully, such as questions 1 to 4.

The last two questions about geometry are the difficult part to classify students, specifically questions 6b, 7b, c.

The English test consists of 40 questions. The test for this subject is also assessed by candidates and teachers as not too difficult, not puzzling, and suitable for the new general education program.

During the two days of the exam, the forces closely coordinated to ensure security, safety; health , food safety; technical infrastructure, electricity; traffic and communication for the exam, to ensure the entrance exam took place seriously, safely and in accordance with regulations./.
