The newly established Thong Nhat commune was established on the basis of merging the communes: Thong Nhat, Vu Oai, Hoa Binh and a part of the natural area of the former Dong Lam commune. After the merger, the commune has an area of 276.12 km2 (the second largest in the province), with a population of over 17,000 people. Immediately after the merger, the commune police proactively reviewed and grasped the local situation, developed professional plans, and assigned forces to be in charge of each area and each village. The police force focused on prevention work, promptly detecting arising problems, especially in managing residence, temporary residence, temporary absence, monitoring subjects with criminal records, and youth at risk of violating the law.
The commune police regularly organize patrols and control on the roads, fight and destroy criminal and drug crimes, and strictly handle violations of traffic safety order. Thanks to that, many complicated cases are discovered and handled right at the grassroots level, not allowing them to spread or form hot spots. In addition to strictly implementing professional work, the police force attaches importance to mass mobilization work and conflict mediation in the community. Cases of land disputes, family conflicts, and conflicts in daily life are patiently listened to, explained, and resolved by the police in coordination with the government and organizations.
The commune police focus on applying technology to management work. A system of 44 security cameras is installed in the area, contributing to monitoring the situation in key areas, supporting investigation and handling of violations. Online public services are deployed, helping people easily carry out administrative procedures related to security and order. Thanks to that, more than 90% of the commune's people know and use online public services, saving time and costs.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Hung, Head of the Commune Police, said: "The special feature of the commune police is to stay close to the grassroots, understand each household and each person, and promptly detect arising problems. The unit determines to both fight against crime and do a good job of mass mobilization and reconciliation to maintain stability right from the root."
The communal police have actively coordinated with the government, the Fatherland Front, and communal organizations to effectively promote the movement of the entire people to protect national security. Major movements such as "The entire people unite to build a cultural life", "The entire people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" were deployed in parallel with the security and order work. Organizing the National Security Day, the Forum "Listening to people's opinions" became annual activities for people to participate in giving opinions on building the police force and security and order work in the locality.
The efforts of the Commune Police have brought about clear results: The security and order situation is stable, crimes and social evils are controlled; many complicated cases are resolved right at the grassroots level. For many years, the Commune Police have been recognized as a decisive unit, a bright spot in the movement of the entire people to protect national security; increasingly affirming its role at the forefront of the cause of protecting national security, a reliable support for local Party committees, authorities and people.
