The 13th Vietnam - Laos Border Trade Development Cooperation Conference

On November 7, the 13th Vietnam - Laos Border Trade Development Cooperation Conference took place at the Provincial Conference Center. Attending were comrades: Nguyen Hong Dien, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam; Malaythong Kommasit, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade of Laos; Bui Van Khang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province.

The 13th Vietnam - Laos Border Trade Development Cooperation Conference.

In his welcoming speech at the conference, Mr. Bui Van Khang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, emphasized: The selection of Quang Ninh as the venue for the conference demonstrates the trust of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the two countries in the role and position of the province. With its strategic position and multi-dimensional infrastructure, Quang Ninh province is ready to become an important bridge, helping goods and agricultural products of Laos, especially those of the northern provinces of Laos, access the Chinese market, as well as reach out to international markets via sea transport routes. Thereby, maximizing the role of an economic and cultural bridge, contributing to further strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Comrade Bui Van Khang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, delivered a welcome speech at the conference.

During the conference, delegates evaluated and analyzed the results achieved in trade development cooperation since the 12th Vietnam - Laos border trade development cooperation conference to date. Accordingly, the total import-export turnover between the two countries reached 7.95 billion USD. Notably, in the first 9 months of 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached 2.36 billion USD, the highest in the past 10 years. Cooperation activities on investment, border trade infrastructure development, and tourism were also effectively implemented by both sides.

Comrade Nguyen Hong Dien, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, delivered the opening speech at the conference.

At the conference, representatives of the departments and offices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the two countries signed memoranda of understanding to continue promoting cooperation in the fields of import-export and trade.

Comrade Malaythong Kommasit, alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Industry and Trade of Laos, delivered the closing speech at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and Comrade Malaythong Kommasit, Minister of Industry and Trade of Laos agreed that there is still a lot of room for cooperation and development in the fields of industry and trade between the two countries. At the same time, they affirmed that they will promptly and effectively implement the contents agreed at this conference, aiming for a bilateral trade turnover of 5 billion USD in the coming time. Thereby, contributing to strongly strengthening the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, as well as the two sectors of Industry and Trade.
