Traditional art forms include theater, music , dance, and fine arts. Each form has its own genres: Theater has tuong, cheo, cai luong, and puppetry; dance has folk dance, royal dance, and religious dance; music has ca tru, hat xoan, bai choi, quan ho, nha nhac, hat van, xam... Each traditional art form has its own characteristics, requiring appropriate preservation methods to avoid the risk of loss.
In traditional theater and music genres, the training of the next generation of artists is still done by direct methods. Many artisans and artists of Xam, Cheo, Tuong, Cai Luong... - "living human treasures" have passed away, leaving a big gap in the training of young artists.
Deeply aware of the above situation, some traditional art units have drastically applied technology to preserve valuable data sources. Vietnam Cheo Theater, Vietnam Tuong Theater, Vietnam Cai Luong Theater, and Central Puppetry Theater have successfully built "online theaters" and regularly perform online to serve audiences every week.
Many classic plays and excerpts are broadcast to millions of viewers through digital platforms to preserve and spread the beauty of traditional theater to domestic and foreign viewers, fanning the flames of passion for traditional art among young people.
The Vietnam Cheo Theatre has produced and digitized a collection of dozens of exemplary plays in Cheo art such as: "Quan Am Thi Kinh", "Luu Binh Duong Le", "Tu Thuc", "Nang Thiet The", "Truong Vien"...
Not only art units but also actors who are passionate about traditional theater also actively participate. Cai Luong artists such as Thanh Thanh Tam and Bach Tuyet have been diligently recording their performance experiences, acting lessons, and excellent excerpts from their plays for many years, posting them on the digital environment with the aim of introducing and spreading the beauty of Cai Luong theater to the audience.
In addition, a number of localities, organizations and individuals have also joined hands to implement. The People's Committee of Ninh Binh province has approved the project: "Preserving and promoting the art of Cheo in the province, period 2024-2027" with the goal of digitizing data on the art of Cheo, as a premise for exploiting and promoting heritage, promoting sustainable tourism .
In Bac Lieu, the Youth Union at all levels has coordinated to carry out activities to preserve traditional arts by collecting, filming, and recording folk art works, traditional dances, and ancient folk songs. The standard version of “Da Co Hoai Lang” and 20 Don Ca Tai Tu versions have been researched and digitized by young people on the Internet. This data system is classified, managed, and ensures accuracy, and is a convenient resource for those who want to learn about traditional art forms in the locality.
A famous project that applies technology to create an online museum of Vietnamese folk performing arts and theater by a group of young people proficient in technology in Hanoi is called Truong Ca Kich Vien. Launched in 2020, to date, Truong Ca Kich Vien has digitized a lot of valuable information related to traditional performing arts such as: Water puppetry, Cheo, Tuong, Cai Luong, Xam, Quan Ho, Chau Van... Truong Ca Kich Vien's online exhibitions have attracted a large number of visitors.
Despite many positive signs, in reality, the application of technology to preserve, conserve and promote traditional arts is still isolated and spontaneous in some units, organizations and individuals. Synchronizing and standardizing the data system on traditional arts requires the drastic participation of the cultural sector.
In fact, over the years, the issue of preserving cultural and artistic documents has not been given due attention, leading to the loss and deterioration of traditional cultural capital. Therefore, documents on traditional art need to be carefully evaluated and standardized by experts and leading researchers, ensuring accuracy and scientificity, and must be collected in a common data warehouse managed by the State.
Art units, localities, organizations and individuals can provide data sources to enrich the national digital museum of traditional art and create conditions for people to easily access, learn and practice traditional art.
This is the basic data source that helps experts build training curriculum for artists in traditional art forms, gradually eliminating the shortage of training students as well as the shortage of successor artists in traditional art units today.
Preserving and standardizing data on traditional art is an urgent requirement in the current technological era. For traditional art to truly be a sustainable support for the development of the cultural industry, transforming cultural values into products serving the spiritual life of the people, enriching the country.
