Legal support for people of Son La province

Legal aid activities in Son La province increasingly affirm their role as a reliable support, contributing to strengthening people's belief in the fairness and humanity of the law and bringing the law closer to life.

Immediately after the Law on Legal Aid (LLA) came into effect, the Department of Justice of Son La province proactively advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue an implementation plan that achieved many outstanding results, contributing to ensuring justice and social equity for the people, especially the poor, ethnic minorities and disadvantaged people.

Accordingly, from 2018 to present, the State Legal Aid Center of Son La province has handled more than 3,000 legal aid cases; of which, 1,394 cases were successful, accounting for nearly 47% of the total number of cases participating in the proceedings. The quality of legal aid services has been increasingly improved, many cases have had their sentences reduced, charges changed or civil compensation reduced, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of the legal aid recipients.

Along with participating in defense and out-of-court representation, the Provincial State Legal Aid Center has promoted communication and dissemination of legal aid policies in various forms. From 2017 to present, the Center has organized 373 communication sessions in 770 poor communes and 835 particularly disadvantaged communes, attracting more than 81,000 participants; distributed more than 195,000 free legal brochures and 3,200 legal aid handbooks; coordinated with press agencies and grassroots broadcasting systems to produce more than 1,100 columns and bulletins, contributing to spreading legal aid policies widely among the people.

Since 2019, Son La province has applied the Electronic Legal Aid Case Management System under the direction of the Ministry of Justice , helping to store, update, and compile records quickly and transparently. Up to now, the system has updated more than 3,500 new cases, helping the Department of Justice and the Provincial State Legal Aid Center to grasp, operate effectively, save time, costs and ensure publicity and transparency in legal aid activities.

With the results achieved, it can be seen that the Law on Legal Aid has truly entered the lives of the people of Son La province, becoming an effective tool to help protect human rights and civil rights. Through legal aid activities, people have more faith in the fairness of the law.
