Weightlifter K' Duong of Vietnam won the title of "Best Athlete" at the 2023 World Youth Weightlifting Championship.
The 2023 World Youth Weightlifting Championships just ended in Albania, witnessing the excellent performance of weightlifter K' Duong. Accordingly, the 16-year-old Vietnamese weightlifter won 3 gold medals, broke 3 world junior records and 3 Asian junior records in the men's 55kg category with 114kg snatch, 144kg clean and jerk and 258kg total lift. With the above impressive achievements, K' Duong was voted "Best Athlete " of the tournament.
At the end of the 2023 World Youth Weightlifting Championship, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 5th overall with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. In addition to K'Duong, weightlifter Tran Thi Hien (women's over 81kg category) won a silver medal when she successfully lifted 96kg in the snatch; and also brought home 2 bronze medals in the clean and jerk (124kg) and total lift (220kg).
The World Youth Weightlifting Championships have been held annually since 2009, for weightlifters aged 13 to 17. And the records set by athletes in this age group are called world youth records. In 2019, Vietnamese weightlifters ranked 4th at this tournament.
The 2023 World Youth Weightlifting Championships will take place in Durres, Albania from March 25 to April 1, with 60 events and 20 weight classes divided equally between men and women. The Vietnamese delegation has 8 athletes participating.
