Recently, Cisco revealed a major shift in enterprise network architecture that is underway. As AI assistants, AI agents, and data-driven workloads reshape how work is done, they are also creating network traffic that is increasingly fast, flexible, complex, and sensitive to latency.
With the proliferation of connected devices, the demand for 24/7 operation, and the growing threat of security, these changes are driving adaptive and evolving network infrastructure. IT leaders are forced to re-evaluate the role of networking – not just as an operational tool, but as a strategic element shaping the long-term value and growth potential of their businesses.
According to Cisco, there are six signs that indicate a business is entering a phase of infrastructure architecture transition:
Networking has become a strategic priority: 100% of businesses in Vietnam consider a modern network a prerequisite for deploying AI, IoT, and cloud computing. 99% of IT leaders plan to increase the proportion of their IT budget allocated to network infrastructure investment.
Network security is vital: 100% believe network security plays a crucial role in business operations and growth; 76% believe it is vital. 99% believe that upgrades will enhance the organization's network security capabilities.
AI is increasing the demand for highly resilient networks: 99% of IT leaders say highly resilient networks are critical, especially given that 66% have faced serious incidents, primarily due to cyberattacks, congestion, and configuration errors, resulting in global losses of up to $160 billion annually, averaging just one major disruption per enterprise.
Leaders expect AI to drive revenue growth: 67% of IT leaders said the biggest impact of modernized networks on revenue will come from deploying AI tools that automate and tailor the customer journey – enabling faster, more personalized experiences, thereby strengthening loyalty and driving growth.
AI is reshaping computing infrastructure: 66% say their data centers are currently unable to meet current AI demands, and 95% plan to expand capacity on-premises, in the cloud, or a combination of both.
Leaders want to make networks smarter: 100% said automated, AI-powered networks are essential for future growth. However, only 33% have fully implemented intelligent capabilities such as network segmentation, observation, and control – to make their networks adaptable.
Mr. Nguyen Nhu Dung, General Director of Cisco Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, shared: “As businesses in Vietnam and around the world are leveraging the power of AI, networking is the key foundation for turning all goals into reality. To meet future needs and protect businesses from increasingly sophisticated threats, today's network infrastructure needs to be faster, smarter, and more resilient. Businesses need to clearly understand that modernizing their network systems is key to driving future growth and success.”
Networks are a strategic asset: Modern infrastructure will unlock growth potential and cost savings.
Currently, IT leaders have begun to create tangible economic value from network infrastructure, primarily through enhanced customer experience (62%), increased operational efficiency (77%), and innovation (53%). However, much of that value will not be sustainable if the network infrastructure is not designed to be suitable for AI or to scale in real time.
To realize their growth potential and achieve their expected cost-saving goals, leaders identified key gaps they needed to bridge: fragmented operating systems (58%), incomplete deployments (46%), and reliance on manual monitoring (44%). A smarter, more secure, and more adaptable network system was the compelling business reason for investment. Nine out of ten leaders (97%) indicated that network infrastructure improvements would directly boost revenue, and 99% expected tangible cost savings through operational optimization, incident reduction, and energy efficiency.
Cisco's research reveals that CEOs globally share the same views as IT leaders regarding the importance of infrastructure in the AI era. 97% are expanding their AI adoption, and 78% rely on their CIO or CTO to make investment decisions. And they recognize the risks: 74% say outdated infrastructure is hindering business growth.
Against the backdrop of a large-scale transformation in enterprise networks, senior management is backing their technology leaders, who will be at the forefront, and 96% believe that trusted partnerships will be crucial to success.
