The draft Law on Teachers is bringing positive signals to teachers nationwide, especially with the proposal to prioritize salary in the administrative career salary scale system and the possibility of reducing the retirement age for preschool teachers.
According to the draft, in addition to the increased salary, teachers can also receive additional allowances depending on the nature of the job and the area of work. Notably, a humane proposal is to consider reducing the retirement age for preschool teachers.
Teacher La Thi Phuong, a teacher at Quynh Xa Kindergarten, Thai Binh province, expressed strong support for these changes.
"I think reducing the retirement age for preschool teachers and giving them the highest salary is completely appropriate. Maybe the work of teachers at other levels has higher qualifications, but in reality, the work intensity of our preschool teachers is very hard," she shared.
The female teacher understands the hardships of her colleagues who work from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. During that time, there are hours of non-stop talking, busy taking care of and comforting the children.
"If other levels of education can be calculated by teaching hours, then in preschool, we have to do one thing at a time, without any time to rest," said the female teacher.
To be able to do her job well, even though her voice is still strong, she still has to use lozenges every night to protect her larynx. Many of her colleagues have throat problems.
According to her, preschool teachers over 50 years old often have difficulty meeting the dynamism of children and the workload of caring for and teaching all day.
Besides, constantly updating new knowledge, information technology, foreign languages, etc. to apply to teaching 5-year-old children preparing for first grade also becomes a big challenge. At that age, children often call me "teacher".
When learning about the positive proposals in the draft Law on Teachers, Ms. Phuong and her colleagues could not hide their joy. However, in that joy there was still some concern: "We really hope that these things will soon become reality, hope that the policy will be approved by the National Assembly and implemented soon."
Ms. Hinh Kieu Thanh Thuy, Principal of Tuong Lai Kindergarten, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, highly agreed with the proposal to rank teachers' salaries at the highest level: "This is a progressive point, showing recognition of the role and great contributions of the teaching staff. I believe that this will help enhance the image and position of the teaching profession in society, thereby attracting and retaining capable people."
However, Ms. Thuy also noted the feasibility of the policy: "It is important to have a specific roadmap, a clear implementation mechanism and ensure financial resources so that this salary reform can truly come to life, especially in localities with many difficulties."

Regarding the proposal to reduce the retirement age for preschool teachers, Ms. Thuy fully supports: "This is a very necessary and reasonable policy, stemming from the nature of preschool teachers' work with great pressure, high intensity and requiring good health. This is a worthy recognition for the tireless efforts of this workforce."
In addition, she also pointed out an issue that needs to be considered when preschool teachers are currently not in the group of heavy and hazardous occupations as prescribed by law. Therefore, if the regulation on reducing the retirement age is included in the Law on Teachers, it needs to be consistent with the Law on Social Insurance to avoid legal conflicts and ensure legitimate rights for teachers.
