Leverage towards the pinnacle of sports

For Vietnamese athletes competing in the SEA Games, medals are honor, bonuses are motivation, and treatment is the foundation, helping the national sports delegation aim to be in the top 3 of the entire delegation.

Increased food expenses to nearly half a million dong but…

In just over a month, the 33rd SEA Games will be held in Thailand. Despite the passing of Queen Mother Sirikit on October 24, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn - Minister of Tourism and Sports emphasized that the hosting of the regional sports event in the land of golden temples is still on schedule.

Bonuses for athletes with achievements at SEA Games 33 have been increased.

That helps the process towards the SEA Games of many countries in the region, including Vietnam, to proceed according to the calculated plan. During the past 6 months, many tournaments to select and evaluate athletes in many sports have taken place. Up to now, some teams have had optimal forces, thereby entering the final stage before going to Thailand to compete.

Also at this time, the detailed regulations on special nutrition for coaches and high-performance athletes were issued. The figure increased from 320,000 VND/person/day to 480,000 VND/person/day. This is obviously a timely action, further encouraging the spirit of high-level athletes to actively practice and strive for important performance goals. However, it should be added that, according to the regulations, only 4 athletes and 14 athletes in each team are eligible for this treatment mechanism. This inadvertently causes problems for some sports with the number of members exceeding the above milestone. This includes volleyball and football.

It is known that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has responded to the above regulation. A representative of the Vietnam Sports Administration said that they have grasped the information. Experts and fans also believe that there needs to be flexibility in the nutritional regime for the specific characteristics of each sport, thereby ensuring that athletes competing in the upcoming SEA Games are treated fairly. From this detail, the efforts and solidarity within the team are maximally guaranteed.

Focus on bonuses

If nutrition and salary are the foundation for athletes to strive, then the bonuses for medals are the "necessary mental doping" that creates important boosts and turning points at the Games. The example of Nguyen Thi Oanh winning 4 individual Gold Medals at the 33rd SEA Games was awarded 180 million VND, along with 92 million VND in bonus, 1 car and 1 apartment in her hometown, etc., becoming a reference for many athletes to be more dedicated and ambitious.

It is known that the Draft Decree “Regulations on policies for members of national sports teams, gatherings, and competitions” has been developed by the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department. In which, the proposed reward levels for SEA Games 33 for each Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal are 60 million VND, 30 million VND, and 25 million VND respectively.

This figure is higher than the 45 million VND (gold medal), 25 million VND (silver medal) and 20 million VND (bronze medal) milestones previously issued in Decree 152/2018/ND-CP. Notably, athletes who break SEA Games records will receive an additional 25 million VND. This figure is 5 million VND higher than the current regulations. This is obviously an opportunity for many athletes participating in various events at the 33rd SEA Games to strive even harder. Because this can be seen as a "gold mine" to help improve the lives of many current sports names.

In addition to the bonuses, the regime that has been, is and will be issued as analyzed above, Vietnamese athletes with high achievements will also receive bonuses from the host country. Accordingly, in the meeting chaired by the President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand Pimol Srivikorn, the proposal on the bonus level for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals was submitted to the Cabinet for approval. The upcoming figure will be 500,000 baht (equivalent to 400 million VND) for the total number of Gold medals, 300,000 baht (for Silver medals) and 150,000 baht (for Bronze medals).

In addition to the above fixed bonuses, the athletes of the Vietnam Sports Delegation also promised to receive financial or in-kind sponsorship from the accompanying sponsors. According to statistics from the 32nd SEA Games, with the overall ranking and winning 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals, 114 bronze medals, the Vietnam Delegation received a total of 35 billion 720 million VND. In particular, businesses, associations, and sport federations have given worthy rewards to teams and individuals with good results at the Games held 2 years ago. Obviously, this promises to be repeated when the Vietnam Delegation continues to strive to be in the top 3 of the overall delegation at the 33rd SEA Games. In addition, the minimum number of gold medals is expected to range from 75-80.

Along with bonuses and benefits, fans also expect to receive more support from nutritionists, doctors, and physical therapists. This is necessary for athletes in football, athletics, karate, wushu, sepak takraw, taekwondo, etc. who are in the stage of intensive training to reach their "peak" at the 33rd SEA Games.

Regarding this story, Director of the Vietnam Sports Department Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet affirmed that this is not only an immediate need, but also a legitimate demand for the sustainable development of Vietnamese Sports. However, he also admitted that at the present time, the sports industry is only solving immediate problems, providing equipment such as ice machines to support recovery, agreeing with training proposals at centers with facilities that ensure health, working with the Vietnam Sports Hospital to support during this time, and at the same time recommending that teams must be serious in using supporting foods...

The teams have increased training.

Towards the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnam sports has deployed many overseas training courses for teams to improve their professional skills, physical strength and international competition skills. The Jujitsu youth team trained for 20 days in Korea and then the Jujitsu national team continued to have a 1.5 month training course in Thailand and Korea.

The Judo team split into groups for over a month in Korea, 10 days in Mongolia and 1 week in Japan for the boxing event. Meanwhile, the national weightlifting team also went to China for a 2-month training session to best prepare for the upcoming regional competition.

The track and field team will have a 22-day training trip in France. In addition, a number of other track and field teams will also have a 20-day training trip in Nanning, China.

The national shooting team was also given the opportunity to train for more than 10 days in Korea to test their ability to adapt to high competition intensity and adjust their techniques in an international competition environment. Regarding football, the Vietnamese women's team will go to Japan to train in the near future. U22 Vietnam also participated in an international friendly tournament in China, meeting high-class opponents such as Uzbekistan, China and Korea.
