From the Farmers Support Fund, Mr. Le Kim Dong, Goc Xanh village, Phu Nghia commune (Lac Thuy) developed a honey beekeeping model with a good income.
Talking about his career, Mr. Dong shared that beekeeping came to him unexpectedly. One day, after coming home from work, he was surprised to see a swarm of bees flying around, landing on a tree behind his house. He quickly borrowed an old box to catch them. From then on, he fell in love with the bees and made friends with them every day. To develop the scale, Mr. Dong clearly realized that he had to invest and learn systematically. He spent time reading books, newspapers, researching techniques on the internet, and even went to other bee farms to "learn from the masters". His perseverance and eagerness to learn helped him accumulate a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in caring for, multiplying bees, and preventing and treating diseases for bees.
However, the biggest barrier is capital to expand production. The real turning point was when Mr. Dong accessed a loan from the Farmers Support Fund (HTND). Mr. Dong shared: With capital, farmer members like him are given more motivation. With the disbursed capital of 50 million VND, he has the resources to invest in purchasing more beehives, supplies, food, and gradually increase the herd. From an initial bee colony, he has now expanded to more than 100 colonies.
Now, Mr. Dong's "fortune" is measured in liters of golden, high-quality honey. According to his calculations, each hive produces an average of more than 10 liters of honey per year. Lychee and longan honey is more valuable, averaging 220,000 VND per liter, while summer honey is cheaper but has a stable yield. Just from selling honey, each hive brings him more than 1 million VND per year. In total, with more than 100 hive, Mr. Dong earns hundreds of millions of VND per year.
Despite initial successes, Mr. Dong still has many concerns, the biggest of which is the output problem. Currently, he mainly consumes products through regular customers and referrals. He hopes to find a unit or business that can consume the products long-term, because without a stable output, he does not dare to boldly invest heavily. This is also a common difficulty for many beekeepers in the area.
The story of Mr. Le Kim Dong is an example of the positive effects of the "beekeeping for honey" project implemented with capital from the Farmers' Association Fund in Phu Nghia commune. Mr. Quach Van Duong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of the commune, said: This project has a total capital of 1 billion VND, supporting 20 member households to borrow 50 million VND/household. This capital is an important lever for members to boldly invest and develop production.
The effectiveness of the project is evident after a period of implementation: 20 participating households have developed 700 bee colonies. Beekeeping not only helps farmer members take advantage of natural advantages, but also brings a stable source of income. Honey prices are at a level that ensures profits, helping many members have more jobs and increase their income.
According to Mr. Quach Van Duong, the "beekeeping for honey" project not only helps 20 farmer households improve their lives, but also spreads positive effects to the community, helping many households have the motivation to escape poverty and become rich. Notably, in addition to the 20 households directly participating in the project, there are currently about 100 other households in the commune that have also developed a beekeeping model and achieved high economic efficiency, affirming the potential and suitability of beekeeping in Phu Nghia commune.
Through capital from the Farmers' Association Fund, beekeeping has become a way to help many farmers in Phu Nghia commune in particular and Lac Thuy district in general improve their lives, get rich, and contribute to local socio-economic development.
