Vam Trang Trau Border Guard Station: Preventing and combating smuggling is a key task

In the first months of 2023, smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal transportation of goods and prohibited goods across the border in the border area still occurred on a small scale. According to the Vam Trang Trau Border Guard Station, subjects illegally transporting goods across the border often use motorbikes, take advantage of trails and shortcuts across the border, take advantage of breaks and nighttime, and use road guards to monitor the activities of functional forces; then organize illegal transportation of goods across the border. The main items are foreign cigarettes, firecrackers, sugar, beer, and soft drinks.

In the first 6 months of 2023, the unit has fought and coordinated with relevant functional forces to synchronously deploy measures to combat smuggling and illegal transportation of goods and prohibited goods across the border. As a result, 5 cases/6 subjects were arrested; 833 kg of firecrackers, 2,560 packs of foreign cigarettes of various types, 1 truck, and 3 Honda motorbikes were seized. The cases were handled in accordance with the provisions of law.

Major Dinh Quang Luc - Deputy Chief of Operations of Vam Trang Trau Border Guard Station said that the Party Committee and Command of the Station always identify that fighting against smuggling and illegal transportation of goods and prohibited goods across the border is one of the key and spearhead tasks.

Therefore, from the beginning of the year, the Command Board assigned specific tasks to departments in performing border protection management tasks, focusing on monitoring the situation from afar, proactively preventing and effectively combating smuggling, transporting prohibited goods and illegal goods across the border.

According to the Captain of the Drug and Crime Prevention Team of the Vam Trang Trau Border Guard Station, Le Huu Doan, the management area of the Station is large, the border is long, the terrain is relatively flat, in which the border includes the land border and the river border, which is very convenient for smugglers to take advantage of favorable conditions to bring goods from Cambodia to Vietnam. The subjects illegally transport to Vietnam to consume items such as: firecrackers, sugar, foreign alcohol, cigarettes.

The tricks of the subjects are increasingly sophisticated, communicating via social networks such as Facebook, Zalo... to avoid detection by the authorities. When discovered, the subjects often inform each other and then abandon the goods and escape, or fight back against the authorities when arrested.

It is forecasted that in the last months of 2023, the situation of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods and prohibited goods across the border will be relatively complicated. The Party Committee and Command of the Vam Trang Trau Border Guard Station continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the direction of the Tay Ninh Border Guard Command on the fight against smuggling and trade fraud; develop and effectively implement the unit's plans; do a good job of grasping the situation of the area, subjects, plots, methods and tricks of all types of subjects, promptly detect and effectively fight against all types of crimes from afar, not to be passive or surprised in any situation.

Closely coordinate with the Police, Customs, Market Management forces... in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and other violations of the law in the assigned border areas. Regularly exchange information on crimes with Cambodian authorities, ensuring political security and social order and safety in the border areas.

Major Dinh Quang Luc said that in the task of preventing and combating smuggling, illegal transportation of goods, and crimes on the border, the unit has exchanged information and situations related to criminal activities with the police forces of the two communes of Bien Gioi and Phuoc Vinh.

Together develop a plan for coordination in performing tasks; promptly combat and effectively prevent smuggling, illegal transportation of goods and prohibited goods across the border and other types of crimes in the assigned areas and areas.

As a result, the Station coordinated with the police forces of 2 communes of Bien Gioi and Phuoc Vinh to arrest 2 cases/4 subjects transporting prohibited goods and illegal goods across the border. Seized evidence: 833kg of firecrackers, 2,260 packs of foreign cigarettes, 1 truck, 2 motorbikes.

Mr. Le Van Hong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Bien Gioi Commune (Chau Thanh District) said that the leaders of the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune regularly discuss with the commander of the Vam Trang Trau Border Guard Station in the work of leading and directing the implementation of border protection tasks, as well as in preventing and combating smuggling such as: coordinating the three forces of the Police, Military , and Border Guard to patrol and protect the border, border markers and prevent land encroachment in the border area, especially the sections that have not been demarcated and marked.
