According to CBS News, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region (Russia) on September 18 (local time).
A tsunami warning has been issued for the area off the east coast of the peninsula following the earthquake, the governor of Russia's Kamchatka region, Vladimir Solodov, said on the morning of September 19.

Writing on the Telegram messaging app, Governor Solodov said residents had been warned of the danger but there had been no reports of damage.
The US National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat warning issued for Hawaii (USA).
"There is also no tsunami threat to British Columbia or Canada following the earthquake," officials added.
Earlier, on July 30, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake, one of the strongest ever recorded, struck Russia's Far East, causing many coastal towns in many countries to issue tsunami warnings.
