This is one of the key projects for which the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Vietnam Electricity issued Plan No. 7089/KH-TLĐ-EVN (dated December 8, 2024) to launch an emulation movement to accelerate the investment and construction progress of EVN's key projects in 2025.
The Nghia Lo 220kV Transformer Station Project and the Huoi Quang - Nghia Lo 220kV Transmission Line Project are invested by EVNNPT, managed and operated by CPMB, and operated by Power Transmission Company 1.
Nghia Lo 220kV transformer station is built in Nghia Lo commune, Nghia Lo town, Yen Bai province. The scale will install 1 220kV-250MVA autotransformer and have land reserve for installing a second 220kV transformer in the future.
The 220kV Huoi Quang - Nghia Lo line has a scale of 2 circuits, over 103 km long with 200 pole positions, 93 corridor anchorages. The project is built in Muong La and Bac Yen districts of Son La province and Tram Tau and Van Chan districts of Yen Bai province.
During the implementation process, the project encountered many difficulties in compensation and site clearance, especially difficulties in converting forest land use purposes. Along with that, the capacity of some contractors is limited. The route of the project passes through rugged mountainous terrain, many locations are near densely populated areas, so there must be measures to warn of construction areas, falling rocks, etc.
However, with the close direction of EVN leaders, EVNNPT leaders, the joint efforts of the authorities and people of the localities where the project passes through, and the determined efforts of CPMB and the units participating in the project, the project has now been completed and energized, meeting the set schedule.

These two projects, once completed, will help release capacity from small and medium hydropower plants in the Northwest region. In addition, they will help reduce power loss in the transmission grid, strengthen regional power system connectivity, improve safety, reliability and stability in operating regional and national power systems, and meet the load demands of industry, commerce, services, daily life and other activities in the Northwest region.
At the same time, it contributes to strengthening the connection of the power system, enhancing safety, flexibility in operation and stability for the national power system; enhancing electricity security for the North from the hot season of 2025.
