In Dong Tien commune, the clean vegetable growing model following VietGAP standards of Ms. Hoang Thi Ngan, a member of the Women's Union of Group 8, Cau 2 Hamlet, is a typical example of how the Women's Union of the commune accompanies not only with capital but also with knowledge and trust.
Previously, Ms. Ngan's family's vegetable garden of nearly 2,000m2 was grown in the traditional way, so the output was unstable. But since participating in the model of the Commune Women's Union, Ms. Ngan has switched to producing clean, safe vegetables. "Participating in the VietGAP vegetable growing model, I learned how to safely treat soil, fertilizers, and pesticides. Vegetables sell for a higher price, consumers trust me, so I feel very secure in producing," Ms. Ngan shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh in Group 7, Cau 2 Hamlet said that by participating in the model, she was supported with seeds, fertilizers and farming techniques. In addition, she also learned the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance among the sisters. Through that, she has more motivation to strive to do business and improve her life.
Not only providing technical support, the Women's Union of Dong Tien commune also focuses on exploiting and mobilizing many capital sources to help women start businesses. The union has coordinated with the district's Social Policy Bank to entrust nearly 11 billion VND to 295 members for economic development loans. At the same time, from the contribution fund of 46 women's groups, the union has provided preferential loans to 91 members in difficult circumstances with a total of more than 900 million VND. "Supporting women in economic development is an important task. The union always creates conditions for members to participate in training courses, technical support and product consumption. These activities have empowered women to be more confident in production and business" - Vice President of the Women's Union of Dong Tien commune Nong Thi Mai said.
Not only in Dong Tien, women in communes such as Thuan Phu, Dong Tam... are also supported by flexible and creative ways of working. Ms. Ngo Thi Hoi in Bau Cay Me hamlet, Thuan Phu commune said that thanks to the goat breeding support program and revolving capital of the association, her family's economy has stabilized. Every year she has more income from her goats, so her life is less difficult than before.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Ly, President of the Women's Union of Thuan Phu commune, activities such as the model "Raising piggy banks to give love", a livelihood fund of 5,000 VND/member, supporting bank loans or sharing experiences in raising livestock and growing crops... have contributed to helping women have conditions to do business, gradually escaping poverty sustainably.
New thinking, new model
In the current economic development trend, the collective economic model is being chosen by many Dong Phu women. The association not only brings economic benefits but also helps women share, learn experiences, and support each other to progress together.
In Bau Cay Me hamlet, the Women's Union has established and effectively maintained two cooperative groups for raising cows, goats for breeding and growing fruit trees. Ms. Hoang Thi Ngoc Xuan, Head of the Women's Union of Bau Cay Me hamlet, said: "Previously, women worked individually, without exchange, so efficiency was low. Now that we have established a cooperative group, we can learn techniques together, understand the market, and traders do not force down prices like before. Thanks to that, the income of members is also higher."
Joining a cooperative helps members change their production mindset, access capital, technology and improve productivity. Currently, Thuan Phu commune has 4 cooperatives led by women that operate effectively. "The commune is mainly agricultural production. Therefore, the association focuses on developing cooperative models suitable to the conditions of each hamlet, thereby helping women develop the economy more effectively and sustainably" - Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Thuan Phu commune Tran Thi Ly shared more.
In addition to traditional agricultural models, many Dong Phu women have boldly tried their hand at creative startups. In Dong Tam commune, the idea of "Processing pig manure without going through a biogas digester into organic fertilizer" by Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh won first prize at the national startup competition in 2024. The idea not only contributes to environmental protection but also provides organic fertilizer solutions for clean agriculture. Many other members have also chosen their own path in the online business model combined with digital transformation, traditional baking associated with brand building, OCOP product development... Although small in scale, each model clearly reflects the proactive, creative entrepreneurial spirit, knowing how to adapt to the market of Dong Phu women.
In Dong Phu, the Women's Union at all levels has realized Project 939 into a series of specific activities. Over the past 8 years, the whole district has organized more than 60 training sessions with nearly 3,000 members participating, supporting more than 110 start-up ideas, of which 15 models have been put into actual operation. In particular, the union has coordinated with the Social Policy Bank and credit institutions to create conditions for women to access preferential loans. To date, the total outstanding debt managed by the union has reached more than 110 billion VND, with hundreds of women receiving loans to develop their businesses. |
