According to specialist doctor I Nguyen Thi Kim Ha, Deputy Director of Cam My District Medical Center, at 6:00 p.m. on April 14, Ms. NTQN (28 years old, residing in Chau Duc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) was admitted to the hospital with a fever of 38.5 degrees, normal pulse and blood pressure.
The patient was tested for dengue fever and the results were negative, with low platelets. Doctors suspected that the patient had grade 1 dengue fever and hospitalized him.
Late that night, the patient also had nosebleeds and bleeding gums. Continuing the test, the doctor found that the red blood cells were still low, so he was diagnosed with internal bleeding.
“After stopping the bleeding from the gums and nose, we transferred the patient to Long Khanh Regional General Hospital for further treatment,” Dr. Ha shared.
At Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, doctors noted the patient's serious condition due to hyperthyroidism and low platelet count and transferred him to Dong Nai General Hospital.
On April 17, the patient was transferred to the Emergency Department of Dong Nai General Hospital in critical condition: cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest. Doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but about 15 minutes later the patient died. Doctors determined that the patient had severe dengue fever, gastrointestinal bleeding, blood clotting disorder, complications of septic shock and multiple organ failure.
According to the report of the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC), in the 16th week (from April 11 to April 17), the whole province recorded 97 cases of dengue fever, an increase of nearly 30% compared to the previous week and nearly 3 times higher than the same period in 2024. The number of cases in the whole province has exceeded the standard curve, meaning there is an epidemic.
CDC Dong Nai warns that the dengue fever epidemic situation is complicated due to erratic weather compared to previous years. In addition, people are still subjective in dengue fever prevention and control, so the risk of an outbreak in localities is very high.
Therefore, districts/cities need to closely monitor the local situation every week, promptly contain the epidemic, strengthen communication work, promptly monitor and handle outbreaks, and expand the scope of outbreak handling to ensure that the outbreak does not spread and prolong.
