Dong Nai chooses sustainable development, focusing on protecting the environment

(DN) - On August 8, the Provincial Party Committee held a conference to review 10 years of implementing Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW dated June 3, 2013 of the Central Executive Committee and Conclusion No. 56-KL/TW of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 7 of the 11th Central Committee on proactively responding to climate change, strengthening resource management and environmental protection.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Linh gave a speech at the conference.

According to the province's report, after 10 years of implementing Resolution No. 24, the work of responding to climate change, strengthening resource management and environmental protection in the province has received attention from most sectors, levels, businesses and people.

Many economic development models in response to climate change and meeting sustainable development goals have been formed. The province has basically completed the treatment of locally polluted areas and landfills that have been there for many years. Currently, the province has been implementing land, mineral and water resource planning; targets for waste collection and treatment, industrial wastewater collection and treatment have met the targets of the Provincial Party Committee's resolution and Resolution No. 24. The environment has been gradually improved.

Besides the achieved results, violations in the exploitation of soil, sand and stone still occur; most of the domestic wastewater has not been collected and treated; the rate of waste classified at source is still low.

At the working session, departments, branches and localities presented many solutions to adapt to climate change, limit environmental pollution and effectively use resources.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Linh said that Resolution No. 24 is a very important resolution for sustainable socio-economic development. Dong Nai has seriously implemented it and achieved many important results.

The Provincial Party Secretary set out 9 tasks for the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee and Party committees at all levels. Among them, the task is to strengthen propaganda to raise awareness, consciousness and actions of management agencies, businesses and communities on proactively responding to climate change, strengthening resource management and environmental protection; in September, submit to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee the province's action program on emission reduction; complete and effectively implement the project on domestic waste management; strengthen environmental inspection, examination and post-audit work, and maintain and ensure a minimum budget of 2% for environmental protection.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Thanh Son awarded certificates of merit to individuals who well implemented Resolution No. 24.

The Provincial Party Committee leaders also noted that planning for industrial, livestock, trade-service, and residential development must be in accordance with nature and ensure the environment. All labor-intensive projects with high risk of environmental pollution must be eliminated for the sustainable development of the province.
