Experts say pepper prices are on the rise due to a decline in global supply while demand in major markets such as the US, Europe and China remains stable.

According to statistics, from the beginning of 2025 until now, domestic pepper prices have increased by about 10,000 - 12,000 VND/kg, with an increase of 10,000 - 11,000 VND/kg in February 2025 alone. Currently, pepper prices range from 159,000 - 161,000 VND/kg, about 65 - 70% higher than the same period last year.

Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) said that with its leading position in the world, Vietnam is not only a country exporting raw materials but is also shifting to developing deeply processed products, increasing export value. However, the industry also faces many challenges, from climate change, pressure from harmful organisms, increasingly strict quality requirements from the international market, and increasing transportation costs.

According to VPSA, Vietnam’s Pepper and Spices industry continues to affirm its important position in the global market, accounting for 40% of total output and nearly 55% of the world’s pepper export turnover. However, in the context of increasingly fierce integration and competition, improving quality, risk management and expanding cooperation opportunities are core factors for the industry to develop sustainably.

According to the International Trade Center (ITC), the global spice and spice products market can achieve a growth rate of over 5.2% per year in the period 2025-2030 with an estimated value of nearly 21 billion USD in 2025 and expected to increase to nearly 27 billion USD in 2030.

The spice market is changing dramatically due to increased consumer preferences and awareness of functional foods. The commercial value of the spice industry is forecast to grow strongly, focusing on prominent trends such as prioritizing convenience, sustainability and new flavors. In addition, consumers are also willing to pay for premium, organic spices with clear origins.
