(To Quoc) - For the first time, Then singing and Tinh lute performances will be held in public spaces in Hanoi, giving the capital's residents and tourists the opportunity to experience this unique traditional art form.

On the evening of November 17 at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square (Hanoi), amid the anticipation of locals and tourists, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee organized a performance introducing the art of Then singing and Tinh lute by 14 art troupes participating in the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute Festival.

Attending the event were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, leaders of Departments and Divisions under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, leaders of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports , and many people in the capital and foreign tourists.

Delegates presented commemorative medals to participating delegations.

This is an important cultural event to preserve and promote the unique artistic values of the Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups...

This is also the first time domestic and foreign tourists have heard artists from 14 troupes perform Then singing and Tinh playing right on Hoan Kiem Lake walking street.

The special music event attracted a lot of foreign tourists.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, the art of Then singing and Tinh lute has spread to many other provinces and cities in recent years, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Central Highlands, where Then singing and Tinh lute clubs are also operating actively. The festival held in Hanoi will contribute to spreading this unique traditional art more widely to the people and tourists...

Typical then melodies are performed for the audience.

"Very interesting, although I don't understand the content, the sounds emitted from the small and pretty piano are very interesting and strange. I will also try to learn about this piano soon" - Ms. Joyce, a tourist from France, shared.

Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung added that the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in 2024 has the participation of more than 400 artisans, artists and actors from 14 provinces and cities.

This is a meaningful activity, aiming to honor, preserve and promote the good traditional cultural values of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in the unified and diverse culture of the community of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups.

The festival is an opportunity for localities to exchange, learn, and share experiences, contributing to raising awareness and consciousness in preserving and maintaining national cultural identity, promoting the value of the Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on "Then Practice of the Tay, Nung, and Thai People in Vietnam" which was recognized by UNESCO on December 12, 2019.

The art of Then singing and Tinh lute is widely introduced by ethnic people to the people and tourists coming to the capital.


Dan tinh artisan Nguyen Van Huu from Ha Giang province is introducing foreign tourists to the history and uses of this unique instrument.

Many foreign tourists enjoy taking photos with Then singers and Tinh musicians.
