According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the World Travel Awards 2025 ceremony – “the Oscars of the global tourism industry” – recently took place in Hong Kong (China). At the event, Ho Chi Minh City was named in four prestigious categories, further affirming the “Vibrant Ho Chi Minh City” brand on the global tourism map.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City has won the awards for “Asia's Leading Business Travel Destination 2025” (for four consecutive years, from 2022-2025); “Asia's Leading Festival & Event Destination 2025” (for four consecutive years); “Asia's Leading City Tourist Board 2025” (for three consecutive years, from 2023-2025); and “Asia's Leading Coastal City Break Destination 2025” (for the first time in Vung Tau - Ho Chi Minh City).
Notably, Vung Tau – a newly merged city of Ho Chi Minh City – was honored for the first time in the category of “Asia’s Leading Short-Term Resort Destination in a Coastal City”. This is a significant milestone, contributing to the stronger promotion of Vietnam’s coastal and island tourism image, while also showcasing the diverse tourism development potential of Ho Chi Minh City – from its vibrant urban center to its upscale beaches and coastal resorts.

Success at WTA 2025 is clear evidence of the attractiveness, prestige, and sustainable development strategy of Ho Chi Minh City's tourism. Over the years, the city has continuously innovated its products, improved service quality, developed a smart tourism ecosystem, and strengthened international promotion. Simultaneously, a series of large-scale cultural and tourism events such as the Ho Chi Minh City River Festival, the Nghinh Ong Can Gio Festival, the Ao Dai Festival, ITE HCMC 2025, etc., have contributed to enriching the city's tourism life and creating a unique identity for the city.
Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that the continued recognition from the international community at the 2025 World Tourism Awards is a great honor and source of pride. This also serves as motivation for the city's tourism industry to continue innovating and creating, aiming to make Ho Chi Minh City a leading tourism hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the WTA 2025, Vietnam was also honored in two important categories: “Asia's Leading Destination 2025” (for the 7th time) and “Asia's Leading Heritage Destination 2025” (for the 3rd time). The achievements of Ho Chi Minh City and other localities nationwide contribute to elevating the brand of Vietnamese tourism – a safe, friendly, attractive, and vibrant destination on the international stage.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, in the past nine months, the city welcomed nearly 5.8 million international visitors and over 29 million domestic visitors, generating revenue exceeding 184 trillion VND, nearing the annual target of 10 million international visitors and 50 million domestic visitors. These figures demonstrate the strong resilience of the tourism industry after its recovery period, while also reinforcing Ho Chi Minh City's position as a "super tourism city" at the center of a triangle of cultural identity: culture, waterways, and modernity.
