According to the VNA correspondent in Moscow, at the ceremony, Rector N. Rogalev performed the ritual of bestowing the gown and Honorary Doctorate, affirming the respect of the Russian academic community for the Vietnamese scientist who graduated from this very school. In the traditional space of "Honorary Doctors of MPEI," the school officially inscribed the portrait of Professor, Doctor Tran Hong Thai on the "golden list" of honored scholars.
In his thank-you speech at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Tran Hong Thai expressed his emotion at returning to MPEI, where he had studied and been nurtured with the foundation of knowledge, thinking style, and serious scientific work ethic that would later contribute to Vietnamese science. He congratulated MPEI on its outstanding academic achievements in recent years, including the strong development of research centers on energy, nuclear power, power systems, and automation; and emphasized the context of Vietnam entering a new development phase, with rapidly increasing energy demand, a strong shift towards green energy, and long-term preparation for the nuclear power program – areas in which VAST plays a core role in research, policy advice, and human resource training.
As the leader of the Academy and also an alumnus of MPEI, the Permanent Vice President of VAST affirmed that he will continue to be a bridge to promote cooperation in postgraduate training, interdisciplinary research, and technology transfer, bringing Vietnam-Russia cooperation in the energy sector to a deeper, more practical, and effective level.
The awarding of the Honorary Doctorate to Professor, Dr. Tran Hong Thai is a vivid testament to the comprehensive friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation over many decades, and a recognition of the traditional relationship between the two scientific communities. At the same time, it marks a milestone opening up new prospects for cooperation between VAST and MPEI in the fields of energy, nuclear power, high technology, and the development of high-quality human resources, contributing to strengthening the scientific and technological foundation for Vietnam's long-term development strategy.
Established in 1930, MPEI is a leading national research university in the fields of energy, electricity, and nuclear power; it is the cradle for training key personnel for the Russian national power system and a strategic partner of Rosatom Corporation. Over more than seven decades of cooperation with Vietnam, MPEI has trained hundreds of engineers and energy experts – who later held important positions in Vietnamese research institutes, businesses, and management agencies.
