70 years of journey to build a multidisciplinary, multi-research university of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry

The predecessor was Bao Loc National School of Agriculture and Forestry (1955). After many periods of development, in 2000 the school officially changed its name to Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry (NLU) and has been under the Ministry of Education and Training until now.

After 70 years of construction, development and growth, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry has affirmed its position in the university system of Vietnam. The school currently has a training scale of nearly 20,000 students, nearly 1,000 graduate students and about 80 PhDs each year. Currently, the school is training 36 undergraduate majors, 28 postgraduate programs (13 doctoral training programs, 16 master training programs), of which 16 training programs meet AUN-QA accreditation standards.

The school always focuses on developing a team of highly qualified lecturers. The proportion of lecturers with postgraduate degrees is nearly 85%. This is a team of lecturers with enough capacity and qualifications to continue developing the school in the new integration period. In addition, there is a system of more than 60 laboratories, 86 classrooms with 6,000 seats, 12 research and application centers, 01 central library with over 15,000 books, 1,000 computers connected to the internal network and the Internet, 01 veterinary hospital, 1 aquaculture experimental farm and 04 research and experimental centers on agronomy, forestry, aquaculture, animal husbandry... serving training and scientific research activities.

With the motto of continuous innovation and development, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry has achieved many achievements in training and scientific research. In the 2024-2025 school year, the University has achieved the second cycle of educational institution quality accreditation. Regarding scientific research, the University has implemented many national and international projects, especially in the fields of high-tech agriculture, biology and environment. The number of international scientific articles has grown impressively with many works published in journals in the Scopus and Web of Science categories, reflecting the research capacity and academic position of the University. These results contribute to increasingly affirming the brand of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry on the regional higher education map.

With a history of 70 years of training and development, NLU is always proud to be a prestigious university providing high-quality human resources in the field of Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries, which is the traditional strength of the school. However, in the context of international integration and the strong development of science and technology, the school has constantly expanded and improved the quality of training and research in many new fields to meet the needs of society and the labor market.

Currently, the school's strengths are not only limited to the fields of Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries but have expanded to many other important fields such as Biotechnology, Food Technology, Environmental Science, Economics, Land Management, Foreign Languages and Information Technology. These fields not only complement traditional fields but also contribute to opening up new directions, closely linked to global trends such as high-tech agriculture, sustainable development and green economy. This is a testament to the school's strong transformation, from a unit focusing on training purely agricultural human resources to a multidisciplinary, research-oriented university.

At the same time, the School also emphasizes the role of a team of lecturers and managers with capacity, enthusiasm and innovative thinking. The School has been investing in improving the professional qualifications, management skills and adaptability to new technology for this team. The policy of attracting and treating talents is also designed to encourage creativity and long-term commitment.

On November 15, 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry will hold a ceremony to celebrate its 70th anniversary. This is an opportunity for the school to express gratitude for the contributions of generations of cadres, lecturers, civil servants and workers; at the same time, honor traditional values, connect generations, and arouse the desire to contribute and be creative in the new period. With the theme "Connecting Journey - Creating the Future", the event is a strong affirmation of the pioneering aspiration, affirming the school's determination to continue to carry out its mission of educating and training high-quality human resources, contributing new knowledge, serving the community and developing society.
