Expected benchmark scores for economic schools: Many hot majors likely to increase?

TPO - Although this year's predicted benchmark scores will generally decrease, there are still many majors whose benchmark scores are likely to increase compared to last year due to the sudden increase in the number of registered candidates.

Speaking with Tien Phong newspaper reporters, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dao Tung, Academy of Finance, said that some majors may have a benchmark score that is 3-4 points lower than last year.

According to Mr. Tung, in 2025, the Academy of Finance will have a wide range of admission scores, possibly from 21 to 28 points, not as concentrated as in 2024 (26.03 to 26.85 on a 30-point scale and 34.35 to 36.15 on a 40-point scale).

“Thus, the benchmark scores of some training majors of the Academy will decrease by 3-4 points compared to last year. A wide range of scores will be an opportunity for candidates to be admitted to the Academy if they register for the right major,” Mr. Tung emphasized.

Giving a forecast on the benchmark score, Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University informed that after analyzing the score distribution of subjects and the general level of high school graduation exam scores in 2025, the benchmark score of National Economics University may decrease by 1-2 points in the graduation results consideration method compared to 2024.

The Head of the Training Management Department also informed that this year, the school has more than 32,000 candidates applying to the National Economics University. Of which, more than 75% applied for combined admission; about 25% applied for admission based purely on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores.

Speaking with Tien Phong reporter, MSc. Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Head of Communications - Admissions Department, University of Commerce, said that looking at the 2025 high school graduation exam score distribution, it can be seen that it is lower than the previous two years.

However, according to Mr. Trung, the admission score depends on many factors. This year, universities do not have separate admission quotas for each admission method. Therefore, the admission score depends on the number of candidates who are admitted based on their ability assessment test scores, thinking assessment scores, or admission combined with international certificates and academic records.

“This year, the number of candidates applying to the school has increased dramatically, about 1.5 times compared to last year, so the hot majors at the school may not decrease but may even increase,” said Mr. Trung.

In addition, Mr. Trung added that the admission score also depends on the attractiveness of the industry. For industries that are less interested in candidates, the admission score may be lower than for hot industries.

Last year, the University of Commerce announced a benchmark score of 25 to 27 for the combination of three graduation exam subjects, the highest in the majors of Commercial Marketing and E-commerce.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management followed with 26.9 points. These are also the three industries that have consistently led in recent years.

The lowest admission threshold of the University of Commerce in 2024 is 25, in some majors such as Human Resource Management, IPOP Hotel Management. The remaining majors are mainly above 26 points.

Although the Banking Academy has not yet announced the expected admission score, this year the minimum admission score is 21. This level is similar to last year. It is known that last year, the Banking Academy's admission score based on high school graduation exam scores was 23-28.13 points for the group of majors on a scale of 30. The highest was for Economic Law. For the group based on a scale of 40 (Math subject coefficient 2), the Finance major had the highest admission score of 34.2.

Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that this year at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, the admission score will be similar or about 1 point lower than last year for economic and law majors such as Marketing, Logistics and Supply Chain, Business Administration,... the admission score will be around 22 - 23 points.

As for Tourism , Information Technology, etc., the admission scores will be about 0.5 points lower than last year, which is about 20.5 - 21.5 points. Other majors such as electricity, mechanics, garment technology, biotechnology, etc. will have the same admission scores as last year, which is 17 - 20 points.

New in this year's admissions, the school has added block C00 in admissions for Tourism and Law majors. Candidates with a score of around 23 - 24 points will have a chance to be admitted to the school.

Blocks with English in them will decrease by 0.5 - 1.5 points for block D01, ... because the English score is much lower than last year. The scores for Physics, Chemistry, Biology are similar to last year, so the benchmark scores for blocks B00, A00, ... are similar to last year.

Mr. Son also said that the block with IT, Economic Education and Law subjects will have a "floor score" of around 16 or 17 because the test is easy and candidates do well on the test. The standard score for the Economic block is expected to be around 22 - 23, while the Engineering and Technology block ranges from 17 - 20 points.

Also according to Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University, the average score of candidates in 5 traditional university entrance exam groups decreased by 0.8-2.1 compared to 2024, so the standard scores of universities will be lower than last year, especially in groups with Math and English, the general decrease is about 2-3 points.
