Will pilot AI in high school
At the workshop "Developing Artificial Intelligence capacity for learners" co-organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) last weekend in Hanoi, Professor, Dr. Le Anh Vinh - Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences said that it is necessary to promote the introduction of AI into education. Accordingly, both integrating AI into subjects and having independent content to equip specialized knowledge. Currently, the Department of General Education is developing a pilot plan for teaching AI in the 2025-2026 school year, after which practical results will be evaluated to expand implementation nationwide.
In addition, Mr. Vinh clarified the orientation of building an AI competency framework in general education, developed based on UNESCO's framework, including four key aspects: human-centered, ethical, technical foundation and system.
In the context of Vietnam's education entering a period of strong transformation, AI has become the central driving force of innovation and human development, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Chairman of the Council, Director of Hanoi National University, said that in addition to equipping basic knowledge, teachers and learners at all levels need to improve their digital capacity and AI application. This is the common goal of the education sector, stated in Resolution 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development.
Local, proactive teachers
Up to now, many localities and schools have organized AI application training courses for general teachers. On October 29 and 30, more than 100 officials and general teachers in Lang Son province attended a training course on this content organized by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province and UNICEF Vietnam. Here, experts introduced to teachers about AI applications, the strengths and limitations of the applications, the process of applying AI to support humanizing learning activities, supporting inclusive education, managing and analyzing learning outcomes. In addition to guiding the flexible and effective use of applications, experts also focused on the pedagogical nature of the content, guiding the practice of using artificial intelligence to support lesson design, combining a variety of artificial intelligence applications to design electronic learning materials, interactive applications with students, etc.
Previously, from June 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training deployed an AI application training program for teachers and managers nationwide, including 5 topics on basic knowledge, UNESCO's AI competency framework and practical applications in teaching. More than one million teachers participated through the TEMIS system; the first training session attracted more than 150,000 people and the recorded videos reached more than 650,000 views.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Principal of Huong Sen Kindergarten (Tuyen Quang) shared that thanks to the application of technology, teachers' work is easier and more scientific. All documents, plans, and evidence are stored online, helping to reduce paperwork and save time for teachers. Teachers have gradually become accustomed to preparing electronic lessons, designing learning materials using Canva, ChatGPT and sharing documents via Google Drive. The school currently has a digital library of more than 300 documents and videos on STEAM activities, and organizes about 200 experiential activities for children each year.
“As a school in a mountainous province, with many difficult conditions, but with determination and a spirit of learning, the school's staff and teachers can still master technology, change their thinking and teaching methods,” Ms. Hien shared.
Many teachers and administrators have used AI in their work, but mainly for simple tasks such as preparing lessons, creating questions or writing reports. According to experts, to exploit it effectively, teachers need to proactively practice their operating skills, design commands and improve their expertise. Because the content provided by AI is sometimes inaccurate or inappropriate, teachers must know how to select and adjust when using it.
