On the morning of January 20, two male tourists aged 68-70 took the elevator of a hotel on Hong Bang Street from the 20th floor down to the lobby. When they reached between the 19th and 20th floors, the elevator stopped, and the two were trapped in a cabin about 2 square meters wide.
Hotel staff received the alarm and tried to open the door but failed. Khanh Hoa Provincial Police Department sent 7 firefighters to the scene. Because the elevator shaft was stuck between two floors, the rescue was difficult. Rescuers used a device to break the wall with a diameter of nearly 40 cm on the 20th floor so that firefighters could approach the victim from above the elevator.
After more than an hour, the tourists were taken out and both are now in stable health.
