Many car owners have been notified of an automatic 6-month extension of their vehicle registration but have yet to be able to print out the electronic confirmation.

According to Thanh Nien reporters, this morning the portal for looking up information and extending automatic vehicle inspection was opened. Many vehicle owners immediately logged in to check. Mr. Tran Tien, residing in Soc Son (Hanoi) shared: "My vehicle's inspection expired on June 20, 2023. Luckily, this morning I heard that it was automatically extended for another 6 months, so I went to check and received the notice: 'The vehicle's inspection is extended until December 20, 2023'. I feel very relieved because I don't have to wait in line or 'cover' my vehicle because the inspection is overdue."

Mr. An Khanh, living in Hanoi, also performed the inspection renewal and said: His car's inspection will expire on April 28, 2024, but it was automatically extended for another 6 months, meaning he will not have to re-register until October 28, 2024.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Permanent Vice President of Binh Duong Automobile Transport Association, also personally checked his personal car and confirmed that he had been notified of an automatic extension for another 6 months. According to Mr. Hung, this situation has been relatively stable and has relieved the burden on people and businesses.

The automatic 6-month extension will help reduce current congestion and make room for other business vehicles.

Speaking to Thanh Nien on the morning of June 3, Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen, Chairman of the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association, shared: "This morning, we received information about the automatic extension for non-business vehicles for another 6 months. This is good news for many people, especially transportation businesses. However, we must also frankly admit that the progress is quite slow. According to the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, this should have been implemented before May 15. Now it is more than half a month late and has prolonged the congestion of vehicle inspection. But anyway, late is still better than never."

Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen affirmed: "According to statistics, the number of personal vehicles and non-business vehicles accounts for 40% of the number of vehicles requiring inspection during this period. Therefore, automatically extending the inspection for another 6 months for family vehicles is the most effective solution, helping to reduce the burden on inspection centers and reserve slots for business vehicles and other motor vehicles."

Notably, this provision does not apply to vehicles whose inspection certificates and inspection stamps have expired before the effective date of Circular 08 (June 3). According to statistics, there will be 155,592 vehicles in this group that will not be automatically extended for inspection and there will be about 1.93 million vehicles that will have their validity automatically confirmed.

However, according to Thanh Nien reporters this morning, many car owners still cannot download the electronic confirmation because the system is overloaded. According to the system's announcement, to avoid overload, car owners can only download the vehicle inspection information confirmation from December 18, 2023. This is causing concern for car owners in cases of traffic accidents or being fined by traffic police.
