Child drowning - old story "hot" again

Only a short time into the hot summer season, Ha Tinh people have been shocked and heartbroken by the news of tragic drowning incidents that have taken the lives of innocent children.

The family is taking care of the funeral of NQB who died from drowning.

At around 11:00 a.m. on April 19, 2025, people in Nam Ngoc village - Xuan Vien commune (Nghi Xuan) discovered NQB (5th grade student - Xuan Yen Primary School) drowning on the bank of a creek bordering Tien Dien town.

Immediately after discovering the incident, local people came down to rescue and took B. to Nghi Xuan District Medical Center for emergency treatment, but he did not survive. It is known that at that time, B. went fishing in this area.

Previously, on the afternoon of March 23, 2025, NAK (5th grade student - Huong Tra Primary School - Huong Khe District) went fishing with some friends at a lake in Dong Tra village (Huong Tra commune), unfortunately fell into the pond. Although the local authorities coordinated with the people to rescue, K. died.

Teaching children knowledge and skills to prevent drowning is essential.

These tragic accidents, despite frequent warnings, serve as a reminder and warning to parents to manage and educate their children about self-defense skills.

According to data from the authorities, in 2024, there were 26 drowning incidents in children in the province, 29 of whom died; from the beginning of 2025 until now, there have been 5 incidents, 5 of whom died. The heartbreaking figures and worries still haunt those responsible.

Mr. Ho Anh Bao - a veteran swimming teacher in Ha Tinh City shared: "Preventing drowning is not only about learning to swim, knowing how to swim, but more importantly, children need to be guided by adults about safe places and methods to play. Parents often forbid children but forget that they cannot control their children at all times, everywhere, so explaining and educating children to be aware of dangerous places to avoid is extremely necessary."

Localities and units have increased the posting of warning signs in dangerous areas with potential drowning risks.

Mr. Bao also recommends that even for children who already know how to swim, or even swim well, parents and children should not be subjective. Because in a water environment, if the exercise technique is not correct and the physical health condition is not guaranteed, the risk of drowning accidents is very high.

According to information from the Ha Tinh Hydrometeorological Center, in the coming days, the whole province will have hot and extremely hot weather, with some places having temperatures above 37 ^degrees Celsius. This summer, the weather is also forecast to be hot, with high average temperatures.

Although it is not yet officially summer vacation, this is the time when the risk of drowning for students is high because of the changing seasons, hot weather, children will have the need to bathe and play in rivers, streams, ponds and lakes. Meanwhile, at the beginning of the season, parents are still subjective, do not remind, control closely, let children sneak to bathe in unsafe places.

Although propaganda and warning work is being strengthened and implemented early by localities, departments and branches, the most important thing is still the attention, reminders, regular supervision from families and awareness from the children themselves.
