Mr. Phan Ut Muoi, Xom Moi Hamlet, has been raising blood cockles in a shrimp pond for more than 2 years, with an area of 2.8 hectares. Each crop, he releases more than 2 tons of cockles, costing more than 100 million VND, performing the steps of dipping before releasing them into the pond, with a density of more than 55 cockles/m2. Each year, he raises 2 crops of cockles, each crop lasts about 6 months, the cockles reach a weight of 100-120 cockles/kg. In 2023, he harvested 3 tons of cockles, selling for 70-80 thousand VND/kg, earning more than 250 million VND. In 2024, he harvested more than 6 tons of cockles, priced at more than 85 thousand VND/kg, earning more than 500 million VND.
Mr. Muoi shared: "The blood cockle farming model is very effective. In the coming time, my family will continue to expand the area and invest more to have a stable source of income."

With 2.5 hectares, Mr. Lam Thanh Binh, Bao Ham hamlet, boldly developed a model of raising blood cockles in a shrimp pond since 2016. He renovated the pond, covered it with a net, and used 1.4 hectares to raise blood cockles, while the remaining area was used to raise shrimp and crabs. He released 150 kg of cockles, harvested after 8 months of farming, and earned a profit of over 160 million VND.
For more than 10 years, Mr. Lam Thanh Dien, Bao Ham hamlet, has devoted 7,000 m2 of production land to raising blood cockles. He releases more than 2 million cockles, raises them for about 12 months, harvests cockles weighing 75/kg, and sells for 140,000 VND/kg. Each year, Mr. Dien releases one crop, cockle output reaches 1-2 tons, earning over 150 million VND. Mr. Dien said: “Raising cockles is simple and does not require much care. Before releasing cockles, just fence around the farming area to prevent crabs from eating the fry. To achieve high efficiency, people should choose a place not too far from the shrimp sluice to raise blood cockles. The best soil for the farming area is soft mud, the mud surface is flat, the thicker the mud layer, the better. The food of blood cockles is organic humus, phytoplankton and microorganisms... Due to the natural conditions of the land of Dam Doi, the blood cockles raised here are often large, the meat is very sweet and fatty.”
According to many farmers, the technique of raising blood cockles in shrimp ponds is very simple. To make cockles grow quickly, you just need to get water regularly and the water must have alluvium to provide nutrients for the cockles. In particular, when the cockles are 1 month old, the surface water must be drained and dried for a few days to kill algae, so that the cockles can stick to the soil and absorb sunlight.

Currently, in Quach Pham commune, there are about 1,800 households raising blood cockles, covering an area of 1,800 hectares. The model of raising blood cockles in shrimp ponds brings high efficiency.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Thong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quach Pham Commune, said: "People in the commune raise blood cockles in combination with shrimp and crabs with quite good results. However, the development and productivity of each household is somewhat uneven. The reason is due to the application of inappropriate farming processes, care and management methods. Raising blood cockles in shrimp ponds is a form of diversifying aquatic species raised on the same area, aiming to increase income. If trained in science and technology transfer, with quality assured breeds, along with good management and care by the people, this model will be a new direction for sustainable economic development for farmers"./.
