Video : Dirty scene on a billion-dollar road in Hanoi
The elevated Ring Road 2, Vinh Tuy - Nga Tu So section ( Hanoi ) is more than 5km long, 19m wide, connecting 4 central districts: Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Hoang Mai and Thanh Xuan.
The elevated Ring Road 2, put into use from January 2023, contributes significantly to reducing traffic congestion at Nga Tu So intersection and neighboring intersections.
However, the management and supervision of facilities as well as environmental sanitation on the elevated Ring Road 2 still have many shortcomings. In particular, the situation of domestic waste and construction materials surrounding both sides of the road from the beginning of Nga Tu So to the end of Truong Trinh causes loss of urban aesthetics and potential risk of traffic accidents.
According to the reporter’s records, there are dozens of spontaneous garbage dumps on this route. The garbage here is mostly household waste and construction materials thrown away by people without awareness. This situation has appeared for a long time but the authorities have not yet completely handled it.
Garbage left for many days creates dirty puddles that are dangerous for cars traveling at high speed on the elevated Ring Road 2.
Mr. Duong Hong Quan (in Cau Giay, Hanoi) said that the garbage situation on this road has appeared for a long time but the sanitation workers have not come to clean it up yet.
“I often travel through the elevated Ring Road 2, and every time I go through here, I am very careful because if I hit a pile of construction materials, it is very easy to have an accident. Before that, I also brushed against a piece of concrete on the branch down to Truong Chinh, causing a long scratch on the side of my car. I have never seen an elevated road with as much garbage as here,” said Mr. Quan.
Household waste is thrown haphazardly on the road surface and on the railings.
Garbage and sand also clog the drainage ditches of the project. This is also one of the reasons why the garbage water accumulates for a long time and gives off a foul smell. In particular, if not treated thoroughly, flooding can occur during heavy rains.
Garbage accumulated over time has given weeds enough time to grow on the elevated Ring Road 2.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Khuong Dinh Ward (Dong Da District, Hanoi) said that the elevated Ring Road 2 runs through many wards in Dong Da District, and the ward in which it is located is under the management of that ward. "We are currently planning and arranging personnel to thoroughly handle the situation of garbage overflowing on the road under the ward's management. In particular, we will strictly handle any case of illegal dumping of garbage on the street," Mr. Thang informed.
