Recently, on May 9, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) officially announced its decision to adjust the average retail electricity price nationwide. Accordingly, the average retail electricity price increased from VND2,103.11 to VND2,204.07 per kWh (excluding VAT), equivalent to an increase of 4.8%. The new retail electricity price list will be applied from May 10.
According to EVN, the adjustment of electricity prices is stipulated in Decree No. 72/2025/ND-CP dated March 28, 2025, which stipulates the mechanism and time for adjusting the average retail electricity price. Electricity prices are considered for change every three months, when input costs increase by 2% or more.
With the retail electricity price list applied from May 10, households using electricity for daily life will pay an additional VND4,550 to more than VND65,050/month/household, depending on usage level.
The new retail electricity price list for household electricity increases as follows:
For households using less than 50 kWh of electricity, the electricity bill increase is about 4,550 VND/household/month.
Households using from 51 - 100 kWh, the electricity bill increase is about 9,250 VND/household/month.
Households using 101 - 200 kWh (the largest customer group), the electricity bill increase is about 20,150 VND/household/month.
Households using 201 - 300 kWh of electricity will see an increase in electricity bill of about 33,950 VND/household/month.
Households using 301 - 400 kWh of electricity will see an increase in electricity bill of about 49,250 VND/household/month.
For households using 400 kWh or more of electricity, the electricity bill increase is about 65,050 VND/household/month.
Basically, the adjustment of electricity prices will ensure that poor households and policy families are not affected significantly. Poor households and social policy households will continue to receive support according to the provisions of Decision No. 28/2014/QD-TTg dated April 7, 2014 of the Prime Minister . In particular, poor households will receive monthly support equivalent to the amount of electricity used by 30 kWh/household/month, social policy households with the amount of electricity used not exceeding 50 kWh/month will receive monthly support equivalent to the amount of electricity used by 30 kWh/household/month according to the Government's policy.
For service business customers, the average increase per customer is 332,000 VND/month; manufacturing customers will pay an average additional 677,000 VND/month/customer; administrative and career customers, on average each customer will pay an additional 125,000 VND/month.

Ha Tinh Electricity Company currently supplies electricity to nearly 480,000 customers, of which 62% use electricity for domestic use and 38% use electricity for non-domestic use. In 2024, the commercial electricity output will reach nearly 1.6 billion kWh, meeting the needs of customers for use, production and business, contributing to the socio -economic development of the province.
Before the new electricity price adjustment, Ha Tinh Electricity Company also regularly coordinated with specialized agencies and localities to strengthen propaganda on electricity saving and efficient use of electricity to accompany the electricity industry in improving the reliability of electricity supply, ensuring stable power supply during the peak hot season.
Mr. Nguyen Hung - General Director of BGG Huong Son Garment Joint Stock Company (Khe Co Industrial Park - Huong Son) said: "Operating in the export garment sector with a fairly large machinery chain, the company's electricity consumption is quite large, about 120 million VND/month in the summer and 80 million VND/month in other months. In addition, the company has just started operating, the construction phase is still continuing to invest, so it has to "bear" large monthly costs, adjusting electricity prices will certainly be a challenge for businesses in the difficult context. In the immediate future, the company's board of directors will develop a plan to regulate reasonable electricity use throughout the factory, reduce and minimize unnecessary areas to prioritize the smooth and stable operation of the production line. In the long term, the company is continuing to attract workers to expand contracts with many partners, increase the scale of operations, thereby contributing to reducing input costs for the company".

Many other businesses, production and trading households are also looking for the most effective and balanced way to use electricity so as not to incur too much electricity costs. For example, saving electricity during peak hours, increasing labor productivity, producing during off-peak hours... Households are also reducing the number of hours of electricity use as much as possible, prioritizing energy-saving devices...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thi in Nam Ha ward (Ha Tinh city) said: “The demand for electrical equipment is increasing, almost all equipment serving the essential needs of the family requires electricity. Right at the time when the hot weather starts, the electricity price is adjusted to increase, my family's electricity bill will definitely increase sharply, significantly affecting the family's life."
Many people are also worried that not only the electricity bills of each family and business, the price increase of the first essential input such as electricity will create a "follow-up" price increase effect for all other services and sectors. This will be a challenge for people's lives as well as production growth of economic sectors.
