EVNGENCO1 proposes to invest 1,500 MW of green energy in Lam Dong

EVNGENCO1 has proposed investing in a cluster of green energy projects with a total capacity of nearly 1,500 MW in Lam Dong province. The projects include floating solar power on Dai Ninh, Ham Thuan, Da Mi lakes and Don Duong pumped storage hydropower.

Developing renewable energy, effectively exploiting the water surface of hydroelectric lakes

On October 22, at a working session with the People's Committee of Lam Dong province, the delegation of Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO1) led by General Director Le Hai Dang presented a proposal to invest in a cluster of green energy projects with a total capacity of nearly 1,500 MW. The projects include floating solar power on Dai Ninh, Ham Thuan, Da Mi lakes and Don Duong pumped storage hydropower.

Leaders of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee worked with Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO1) on the proposal to invest in a green energy project cluster of nearly 1,500 MW.

According to the proposal of EVNGENCO1, the green energy project cluster in Lam Dong includes four projects: floating solar power on Dai Ninh lake (96 MW), Ham Thuan (100 MW, phase 1), Da Mi (70 MW, phase 2) and Don Duong pumped storage hydropower project (1,200 MW). The total investment capital is expected to be about 34,000 billion VND.

The projects aim to supplement clean power sources, improve national energy security; effectively utilize the water surface of existing hydroelectric reservoirs; and at the same time contribute to promoting local socio -economic development, creating jobs, increasing budget revenue and improving infrastructure in the project area. This is a specific direction to realize the Power Plan VIII (adjusted) and the national carbon neutral strategy that Vietnam has committed to.

Coordinate with localities in investment preparation work

EVNGENCO1 has completed the investment proposal dossier in accordance with the provisions of the Investment Law and sent it to the People's Committee of Lam Dong province for consideration. At the meeting, the Corporation requested the province to support investment promotion, especially in terms of policies, land, compensation - site clearance and dossier appraisal.

The Da Mi Lake Floating Solar Power Plant of Da Nhim - Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company under Power Generation Corporation 1 is contributing about 70 million kWh/year to the national power system.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Trong Yen, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the capacity and experience of EVNGENCO1 in the field of power source development, especially large-scale hydropower projects that have been operating stably and effectively in the province.

He affirmed, “Investing in renewable energy projects associated with the existing hydropower reservoir system is the right direction, in line with the green energy development policy of Lam Dong province. The province will assign departments and branches to coordinate with EVNGENCO1 to review and provide specific guidance on procedures, ensure compliance with legal regulations and create favorable conditions for investors to soon implement the project when qualified.”

As one of the three main power generation corporations of Vietnam Electricity Group, EVNGENCO1 currently manages 7,844.5 MW of power source capacity, accounting for about 9% of the total capacity of the national power system.

In the coming period, the Corporation will continue to orient the development of renewable energy projects and the application of modern technology, aiming to contribute to energy transition, ensure energy security and sustainable development.
