Rubber price today May 15: Rubber price continues to increase

At the end of the trading session on May 14, in China, the price of rubber futures for May delivery on the Shanghai Stock Exchange increased by 1.15% (170 yuan) to 14,935 yuan/ton. Similarly, the price of rubber futures for May delivery on the OSE in Japan increased by 1.8% (5.8 yen/kg) to 322 yen/kg. In Thailand, the price of rubber futures for June delivery increased by 0.4% (0.32 baht) to 76.3 baht/kg.

The Malaysian rubber market also continued its upward trend amid optimism over the possibility of a US-China trade truce, a trader told Bernama . The benchmark SMR 20 rubber price rose 10 sen to 780 sen per kg, while the price of loose latex increased 5 sen to 616 sen per kg.

Meanwhile, market sentiment was also supported by weaker-than-expected US inflation data and lower natural rubber (NR) production, according to a report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). Specifically, Malaysia's natural rubber production fell 20.3% to 28,712 tonnes in March 2025 from 36,005 tonnes in February but increased 6.5% year-on-year in March 2024.

In another development, Sumitomo Rubber Industries has begun 24/7 hydrogen production using its newly installed Yamanashi Model P2G (power-to-gas) system at its Shirakawa plant in Fukushima Prefecture.

This is an important step in the group's efforts to decarbonize and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, according to an announcement by Sumitomo Rubber on April 15.

The Shirakawa facility, which produces passenger car, truck and bus tires, is Sumitomo Rubber's main production facility and consumes approximately 10,350 tons of new rubber per month.

By producing green hydrogen on-site, the Japanese rubber and tire giant expects to cut about 1,000 tonnes of CO2 per year (1 ktpa), including scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions – including transport.

Domestic rubber price

Domestically, businesses keep rubber prices stable. Specifically, Ba Ria Rubber Company purchases latex at level 1 at 452 VND/degree TSC/kg for TSC levels of 30 and above; level 2 at 447 VND/degree TSC/kg for TSC levels of 25 to under 30; level 3 at 442 VND/degree TSC/kg for TSC levels of 20 to under 25.

Cup latex, coagulated latex with DRC ≥ 50% at 18,000 VND/kg; cup latex, coagulated latex with DRC from 45-50% at 16,700 VND/kg; coagulated latex with DRC from 35-45% at 13,500 VND/kg.

Mang Yang Rubber Company, latex purchase price decreased by 18.5 VND, currently fluctuating between 397 - 401 VND/TSC, depending on the type. Accordingly, latex type 1 is at 401 VND/TSC/kg; latex type 2 is at 397 VND/TSC/kg.

Grade 1 mixed latex is at 409 VND/DRC/kg; grade 2 mixed latex is at 359 VND/DRC/kg.

Phu Rieng Rubber Company purchases latex at 440 VND/TSC/kg; mixed latex at 400 VND/DRC/kg.

The purchase price of latex at Binh Long Rubber Company is at 386 - 396 VND/TSC/kg; mixed latex with 60% DRC is priced at 14,000 VND/kg./.
