Durian price today December 2, 2025: Sharp increase due to off-season

The durian market is in shortage, expected to last until March.

The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association assessed that the market is in the off-season, leading to a prolonged shortage that could last until March next year. Off-season supply was already limited, but this year it has decreased even more sharply because many gardens in the West were flooded.

The low price of durians in the off-season crop last year was also an important factor. Many farmers decided not to treat the trees for off-season flowering and instead let them bear fruit naturally, waiting for the main harvest from April.

Although the general price of durian has increased sharply, there are still places selling it at lower prices. The Fruit and Vegetable Association said the low price of durian is due to "dried goods", with a high percentage of substandard fruit. This fact shows that cultivation techniques need to be improved to improve quality, meet export requirements and serve domestic consumption.

With off-season supply not abundant, domestic durian prices are forecast to remain high in the coming time due to positive export demand.

The latest figures from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association show that fruit and vegetable exports in November reached about 754 million USD, up 65% over the same period in 2024. In total, fruit and vegetable exports reached more than 7.8 billion USD in 11 months. Durian alone contributed more than 3 billion USD, continuing to play a key role in the Chinese market, the largest customer of Vietnamese agricultural products.
