Assessment of durian price situation today May 27, 2025
Durian prices remained stable today, but the clear difference between the bucket and selected varieties shows that the market is placing high demands on quality. In the context of export difficulties, domestic consumption has become an important factor helping the market maintain balance.
Prices are likely to remain flat or increase slightly for premium durians, especially as domestic demand picks up in the summer. However, bucket varieties may continue to face downward pressure if supplies from major growing regions increase.
Durian price news today May 27, 2025
According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD), over the past decade, the durian growing area nationwide has increased nearly 6 times, currently reaching about 180,000 hectares, with an estimated output of 1.5 million tons, making this fruit a key fruit in the agricultural production structure.
In 2024, Vietnam's durian exports will achieve impressive growth, becoming a key product in the fruit and vegetable industry. Output and export turnover are estimated at about 1.5 million tons, with a planting area of nearly 180,000 hectares, 6 times higher than in 2015. Export turnover will reach a record of more than 3.3 billion USD, up 43.2% compared to 2023 and accounting for nearly 50% of the country's total fruit and vegetable export turnover.
However, in the first four months of this year, durian exports witnessed a sudden decline when the total turnover only reached about 120-130 million USD, equivalent to 35,000 tons - only 20% of the plan. The reason is that since the beginning of the year, China has strengthened control over the quality of imported durian. The tightened standards on quarantine, cadmium residue, O-yellow and traceability have caused many substandard shipments to be returned, creating a break in the consumption chain.
However, as May approaches – the peak harvest season for Ri6 durian in the Mekong Delta – domestic signals indicate that prices are no longer falling as sharply as they did at the beginning of the year. Maintaining a price of 60,000-65,000 VND/kg for Grade A durian has allowed growers to start making a profit again, especially with better control over input costs.
