Whooping cough cases on the rise in Hanoi

According to the latest report on disease surveillance in Hanoi , in the first week of June, the number of whooping cough cases continued to increase with 18 cases reported, an increase of 2 cases compared to the previous week (16 cases). Patients were distributed in 11 districts: Hoai Duc 4 cases; Hoang Mai 3; Thach That and Thanh Tri both recorded 2 cases; Ba Dinh, Cau Giay, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, Soc Son, Thuong Tin, Ung Hoa each had 1 case.

Whooping cough symptoms in children, parents need to take their children to see a doctor

Since the beginning of the year, the epidemic surveillance system has recorded 116 cases of whooping cough (none recorded in the same period in 2023) in 25 districts, towns and cities. The cases are mainly in young children who are not old enough to be vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated.

48.3% of whooping cough patients are children under 2 months old; 25% are children 2 - 3 months old; 10.3% are children 4 - 11 months old; 16.4% are children 1 year old and older. According to vaccination history, 62.1% of whooping cough cases have not been vaccinated; 1 - 2 doses are 18.1%. In addition, many cases have unknown vaccination history.

19 districts recorded cases of hand, foot and mouth disease

Regarding hand, foot and mouth disease, Hanoi also recorded 80 cases in the first week of June, an increase of 8 cases compared to the previous week (72 cases). 19/30 districts, towns and cities recorded patients, of which, some places with many cases are: Me Linh 11, Nam Tu Liem 10, Ha Dong 8, Bac Tu Liem 7. In the first 5 months of this year, 1,472 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease were recorded in Hanoi, an increase of 708 cases compared to the same period in 2023 (764).

According to a report from the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), in the first week of June, there were 34 cases of dengue fever under surveillance, an increase of 13 cases compared to the previous week (21 cases).

Since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded 745 cases, more than double the same period in 2023 (360). Hanoi CDC said that summer weather conditions with heavy rain are favorable for the development of mosquitoes and disease-transmitting larvae, and the number of cases is forecast to increase in the coming time.

Regarding Covid-19, the surveillance system recorded 15 cases, an increase of 4 cases compared to last week. Since the beginning of the year, Hanoi has had 667 reported Covid-19 cases, down compared to the same period in 2023 (16,331 cases).
