According to information from many gardeners and businesses, on the afternoon of May 20, the domestic price of pepper (dried black type) was traded at a common level of 150,000 - 152,500 VND/kg (excluding zem), a slight decrease compared to the previous day.

Specifically, in Dak Lak, pepper price is 152,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. In Gia Lai and Dak Nong, the price is 150,000 - 151,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday.

In the Southeast region, Ba Ria - Vung Tau recorded the highest pepper price of 152,500 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai prices were 151,000 - 152,000 VND/kg, slightly down from yesterday.

Meanwhile, pepper prices updated from the International Pepper Community (IPC) this morning showed slight fluctuations, with differences between countries.

Accordingly, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper reached 7,301 USD/ton; the price of Muntok white pepper was recorded at 10,051 USD/ton.

In Malaysia, the price of ASTA black pepper is still at 9,200 USD/ton; the price of ASTA white pepper is 11,900 USD/ton. In the Brazilian market, the purchase price of ASTA 570 black pepper is at 6,800 USD/ton.

In Vietnam, the price of 500g/l black pepper is currently at 6,700 USD/ton, 550g/l at 6,800 USD/ton; white pepper at 9,700 USD/ton.

According to many businesses, domestic purchasing power is still weak, along with farmers' hoarding mentality and traders' caution, which are the main reasons why domestic prices have not been able to increase significantly, or even decrease.

Therefore, it is forecasted that next month the price may only fluctuate slightly within the range of 150,000 - 155,000 VND/kg.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on May 20, a representative of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said that despite the uncertainties of the trade war and some markets reducing imports, there is still reason to believe that pepper prices will remain stable, even with prospects for recovery in the medium and long term.

"In general, world supply is still lacking demand, although the shortage may not be as great as previously feared. However, domestic pepper price movements are difficult to predict due to the impact of many factors," he said.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, by the end of April, Vietnam had exported 74,250 tons of pepper of all kinds. The total export turnover reached 510.6 million USD, compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume decreased by 10.6%, but the export turnover increased by 45%.

Vietnam's leading pepper export markets include the US with an export volume of 16,682 tons; India ranked second with 5,905 tons...
