Gasoline price today April 21, 2025: Strong increase

According to the update on Oilprice at 4:30 a.m., Brent crude oil was trading at $67.85/barrel, up 3.20%, equivalent to $2.11/barrel. WTI crude oil also increased by 3.54%, to $64.45/barrel.

The main driver of the oil price increase is concern about tightening global supplies. This stems from new US sanctions targeting Iran’s oil exports, including many companies and shipping vessels with ties to China. This raises the risk of supply disruptions and increases the cost of oil trading insurance.

In addition, OPEC has updated its production cut plan for some member countries with an increase of up to 520,000 barrels/day. This continues to contribute to limiting supply and creating a push for oil prices.

In addition to the supply side, the prospect of trade relations between the US and the EU also created positive sentiment for the market. The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was expected to be a step forward in easing transatlantic trade tensions.

Brent crude oil prices ended the week up 7%, returning to $68/barrel, while WTI also increased by more than 5%. At the same time, the European Central Bank (ECB) continued to cut interest rates for the seventh time in a year, down to 2.25%. The ECB warned that US tax policies could negatively affect economic growth, reinforcing the possibility of further easing measures in the near future.

The domestic retail price of gasoline on April 21, 2025 will be applied according to the adjustment decision from 3:00 p.m. on April 17 by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. During this adjustment period, most gasoline products will have a slight price decrease.

Specifically, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline is currently at VND18,498/liter, down VND384 compared to the previous adjustment. RON 95 gasoline also decreased by VND351, down to VND18,856/liter. Diesel has a new price of VND17,037/liter, down VND206. Kerosene decreased by VND229, down to VND17,184/liter. Fuel oil alone increased slightly by VND58, up to VND15,960/kg.

During this period, the joint ministries did not set aside or use the Price Stabilization Fund for all of the above mentioned petroleum products.

Since the beginning of 2025, domestic gasoline prices have been adjusted a total of 16 times. Of these, there have been 7 price decreases, 6 price increases, and 3 opposite adjustments.
