Gasoline prices today May 28: How are they adjusted domestically?

On the morning of May 28, gasoline prices decreased slightly, Brent oil decreased 65 cents, equivalent to 1%, to 64.09 USD/barrel; WTI oil decreased 64 cents, equivalent to 1.04%, to 60.89 USD/barrel.

Concerns about oversupply after Iran and the US delegations made progress in negotiations, combined with expectations that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC +) will decide to increase production at a meeting this week, are strongly affecting oil prices, according to Reuters.

It is expected that at a private meeting on May 31, the eight members of OPEC+ will likely agree to increase oil production by 411,000 barrels per day in July. Meanwhile, the fifth round of negotiations in Rome (Italy) between the Iranian and US delegations has ended. Analysis shows that if the nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran fail, Iran's oil supply to the market will continue to be limited, but on the contrary, the market will be supplemented with a large amount of crude oil from Iran.

The oil market is at risk of facing oversupply in the second half of 2025, analysts warned on Reuters. Demand could also weaken due to the US's global tariff trend, creating conditions for oil prices to fall sharply.

The latest data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) released on May 27 showed that US crude oil inventories rose by 1.5 million barrels, higher than the forecast of a decrease of 1 million barrels according to a Reuters survey. This increased concerns about weak demand, especially when gasoline consumption in the US fell 2% compared to the previous week, even though the peak driving season is about to begin.

Domestically, updated imported gasoline prices from key traders show that imported oil prices are showing a slight downward trend, but gasoline prices have increased slightly, if calculated on average as of May 29. It is forecasted that in the price adjustment period tomorrow (May 29), domestic gasoline prices may increase slightly by less than 100 VND/liter, while oil products may decrease by the highest level of 300 VND/liter.

In the most recent price adjustment (May 22), domestic gasoline prices also changed in opposite directions, increasing and decreasing. Of which, gasoline decreased by about 60 VND/liter, oil prices increased by 90 - 350 VND/liter/kg./.
