National Second Division 2025: Quang Ninh and Van Hien University tied for first place

On the evening of June 22, the 14th match – the final round of the 2025 National Second Division Football Tournament – ​​took place in an exciting and dramatic atmosphere, concluding an exciting season with many notable highlights. The four promotion spots were also fully determined, with Quang Ninh and Van Hien University winning the joint first place in the tournament.

In Group A, the two early promotion tickets belonged to Quang Ninh and Bac Ninh after the 13th round. However, the race for the top spot in the group is still fierce because the team leading Group A will also be one of the two teams ranked First overall. Before the final round, Quang Ninh led with 23 points, only 1 point more than Bac Ninh (22 points), forcing both teams to aim for victory in the 14th round to secure the top spot.

As a result, Quang Ninh successfully defended their leading position in Group A after a thrilling 4-3 victory at PVF Stadium thanks to goals in extra time by Van Do and Van Hieu.

Meanwhile, Group B entered the final round with an unpredictable situation. After a 0-1 defeat to Van Hien University in round 13, Lam Dong went from being proactive to being at risk of being eliminated from the race. Before round 14, Lam Dong (29 points), Gia Dinh (26 points) and Van Hien University (26 points) all had a chance to be promoted. In case Van Hien University wins Dak Lak and Gia Dinh wins Lam Dong, all three teams will reach 29 points.

According to the tournament format, when three or more teams have the same number of points, the rankings are determined based on direct confrontation between the teams. In that scenario, Van Hien University has an advantage of 7 points, Gia Dinh has 5 points, and Lam Dong has only 4 points – meaning they will be eliminated from the race if they lose the final match.

In fact, the worst-case scenario happened to Lam Dong when they lost 0-2 to Gia Dinh, while Van Hien University defeated Dak Lak 1-0 at Thong Nhat Stadium. This result helped Van Hien University and Gia Dinh both win promotion with 29 points, thanks to a better head-to-head record than Lam Dong.

The 2025 National Second Division officially ended with exciting developments until the final round. Quang Ninh and Van Hien University won the joint first place in the entire tournament. Four teams won the right to play in the 2026 National First Division: Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Van Hien University and Gia Dinh.
