To preserve and promote traditional cultural values, in recent years, various sectors and localities in the province have focused on implementing many activities such as organizing mass art movements; strengthening the teaching of traditional culture through short-term and professional courses at schools; art performance programs serving tourism and promoting ethnic culture domestically and internationally; and various projects…

Project 6 on preserving and promoting the valuable traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in conjunction with tourism development, under the National Target Program for socio -economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, giai đoạn 2021 - 2030, Phase I: from 2021 to 2025, according to Decision No. 1719 (referred to as Project 6), has been implemented throughout the province since 2022 and has brought many benefits to the localities.

In Lak District, many activities have been implemented to date, including the renovation, upgrading, and expansion of the Sruong village cultural house (Bong Krang commune); the development of the Jun village as a typical tourist destination (Lien Son town); the organization of traditional handicraft training classes in weaving, basic gong playing skills, and folk dance (Yang Tao commune); research, restoration, preservation, and promotion of the M'nong ethnic group's traditional pottery making (Dong Bak village, Yang Tao commune); the organization of the M'nong people's water source worship ceremony in Jun village (Lien Son town); and support for the activities of two traditional performing arts groups in Cuor Tak village (Yang Tao commune) and T'long village (Dak Phoi commune)...

One of the most effective activities is the research, restoration, preservation, and promotion of the traditional M'nong pottery craft (Dơng Bắk village, Yang Tao commune). In 2024, with funding from Project 6, more than 20 M'nong women in Dơng Bắk village were taught traditional pottery making, thereby creating jobs, improving income for the people, and preserving and promoting the traditional craft.

The team of pottery artisans, both young and old, not only practice and demonstrate this traditional craft locally but also regularly participate in cultural programs, exchanges, and tourism promotion activities inside and outside the province, gaining much popularity. Artisan H'Phiet Uong (Yang Tao commune, Lak district) shared: "It's very enjoyable to perform like that; many people love the simplicity and rusticity of our pottery and the unique way we make it…". Through many efforts to preserve and promote it, the pottery making craft of the M'nong people in Yang Tao commune (Lak district) has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Mr. Lai Duc Dai, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the implementation of Project 6 over the past years can be considered an effective solution for the cultural sector and localities to effectively preserve and promote the unique cultural values of ethnic minorities; creating momentum for these values to spread and become a reality.

In addition to Project 6, at the local level, every year, grassroots organizations hold cultural exchanges and festivals featuring gong music, folk songs, folk dances, traditional musical instruments, and mass art festivals. This cultural exchange also extends between ethnic groups within the province and other localities throughout the country.

Two generations performed at the 3rd Dak Lak Province Gong Culture Festival.

Regarding the Gong Culture Space, after many years of focused preservation and investment promotion, the province has achieved many positive results. To date, from various funding sources and projects, the cultural sector has provided more than 200 sets of gongs and 986 sets of traditional costumes to ethnic minority villages; organized more than 130 gong playing training classes; restored over 140 traditional rituals and festivals associated with gongs; organized regular performances of gong culture programs for the people and tourists at the Provincial Cultural Center, along with many other activities related to the preservation of gong culture.

In particular, the transmission of traditional gong music to the younger generation has received significant attention and support. In 2022-2023, with funding from the Jeollabuk Province International Cooperation Center (South Korea), 11 classes were organized to teach gong music to students and ethnic minority people at Tay Nguyen University; and in the districts of Krong Ana, Lak, Ea H'leo, and Krong Buk, with each class having 20-25 students… This funding has also led to the establishment of 50 gong clubs and traditional gong ensembles in villages and hamlets; thereby raising awareness among the younger generation about preserving ethnic cultural identity.
