On the evening of November 27, the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department said it had received a report regarding the discovery of a large volume of wood at a storage yard in Kham Duc Town (Phuoc Son District, Quang Nam).

Previously, on the afternoon of November 24, based on a citizen's complaint, the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department coordinated with the Phuoc Son District Forest Protection Department and Kham Duc Town Police to verify the location of illegal timber storage at the land plot opposite the house at 49 Quang Trung, Kham Duc Town.

Wood was discovered stored on the land of an official of Phuoc Son District.

Through inspection, the authorities determined that there were 14 logs of round wood (volume 2.052 m3 ) and 77 boxes and sawn timber bars (volume 2.881 m3 ) being stored illegally.

According to the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department, the owner of the land plot where the newly discovered timber is stored is Mr. Vo Van Ba (48 years old, residing at 49 Quang Trung), Head of the Internal Affairs Department of Phuoc Son District. However, the owner of this timber belongs to Mr. Vo Van Nho (53 years old, residing in Kham Duc Town, Mr. Ba's brother).

According to Mr. Vo Van Nho, in 2014 and 2015, he bought this amount of wood from local people and some of the wood had legal origins, but because the wood purchase records were long ago, they were "lost".

14 logs, totaling 2,052 m3, were discovered on Mr. Vo Van Ba's land.

After establishing a record of the violation according to regulations, the working group brought all the illegal timber to Phuoc Son District Forest Protection Department for temporary detention and preservation. At the same time, all records and evidence of the violation were handed over to Phuoc Son District Forest Protection Department for further investigation, verification and handling.

Meanwhile, a leader of Phuoc Son District said that he had received information that "illegal timber was discovered on the land of a district official". The district has directed the Phuoc Son District Forest Protection Department and relevant agencies to clarify the matter and when results are available, they will be strictly handled according to regulations.
