Hanoi plans to support boarding meals for primary school students

The Hanoi People's Committee proposed that in the 2025-2026 school year, it will spend more than 3,000 billion VND to support boarding meals for about 768,000 primary school students in the area.

The Hanoi People's Committee is seeking public opinions on the draft regulation on the mechanism for supporting meals for primary school students in the city for the 2025-2026 school year.

According to the draft, Hanoi plans to spend more than VND3,000 billion to support boarding meals for about 768,000 primary school students in public and private schools in the area.

Of which, public students are 707,727, with a budget of about more than 2,800 billion VND; private students are about 60,273, with a budget of about more than 200 billion VND.

Explaining the reason for the proposal to support boarding meals for primary schools, Hanoi City said that because primary schools have the largest number of students compared to other levels, and are also compulsory for students to study 2 sessions/day, all schools organize boarding meals for students.

Hanoi City said that based on 1 year of implementing support for boarding meals for primary school students, based on the actual situation and budget balance, the Department of Education and Training will summarize and report to the City People's Committee on support for the remaining levels of education.

The reason for not supporting foreign-invested educational institutions is that most of the students here are foreigners. If they are Vietnamese students, their families are financially well-off and willing to pay higher tuition and boarding fees for their children.

Hanoi currently has 778 primary schools, including 728 public schools and 50 private schools. According to Resolution No. 03/2024 of the Hanoi People's Council, public school students must pay for meals when staying at boarding schools, with a ceiling of 35,000 VND/student/day.

Hanoi also said that the development of support policies to implement the suggestions of General Secretary To Lam at the meeting with voters on April 17, 2025, is also a continued demonstration of interest in the causeof education and creating the best conditions for children in the capital.
