The Hanoi Department of Education and Training awarded 42 Certificates of Merit, 129 Certificates and rewards to 35 groups and 136 individuals with achievements in the foreign language self-study month movement at high schools in the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, more than 1,800 outstanding individuals received gifts.
Also at the event, representatives of the Tam Long Viet Fund and other organizations awarded 250 Reach for the Stars scholarships to secondary and high school students in Hanoi, each worth 2,400,000 VND. The program aims to encourage the study of English and create the best learning conditions for students of secondary and high schools in the public school system in 30 provinces/cities nationwide.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the “Foreign Language Self-Study Month” movement has achieved impressive results, promoting the spirit of self-study among students and teachers. The movement has created a solid step forward in foreign language training through the application of digital technology in training.

After one month of launching, the whole city has about 624,000 accounts of students and teachers registered. In particular, nearly 481,000 students completed the English proficiency test. Hundreds of thousands of students maintained lessons on the system to improve their foreign language skills. To effectively implement and continue the self-study movement, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized a training conference and established 46 working groups with the participation of leaders of the Department of Education and Training, cluster heads of high school clusters and teachers and technicians of high schools to support timely and continuous learning, ensuring efficiency and quality.
Ms. Ta Thi Thanh Huyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Ung Hoa district, shared that participating in the foreign language self-study movement opens up opportunities for students in suburban districts to access advanced foreign language learning resources, methods and experiences, and improve their foreign language skills. Students who have the habit of self-study will gradually improve their listening and speaking skills.
Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said: "Foreign language self-study month is one of the practical and meaningful activities of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to contribute to narrowing the educational gap between inner and outer city areas, while focusing on improving the foreign language skills of students, gradually making English the second language in schools."
