Enhancing the promotion and consumption of regional OCOP products.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, the OCOP program is a key program for developing the rural economy by leveraging local resources and increasing added value; it is an important solution and task in implementing the National Target Program for building new rural areas in the 2021-2025 period. It promotes the initiative, creativity, and cooperation of stakeholders and communities to develop OCOP products, meeting market demands, and aligning with the goals of creating jobs, increasing people's income, and preserving traditional culture.
As the capital city, Hanoi boasts a large-scale agricultural production area, with over 197,000 hectares dedicated to agricultural activities, ranking among the top localities nationwide. Hanoi currently has 1,336 active agricultural cooperatives; 1,574 farms; 172 production-consumption linkage chains; over 164 high-tech application models; and more than 14,000 agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products that have been granted QR codes for traceability.
In Hanoi , the demand for high-quality food and groceries for the approximately 12 million people living, working, and residing in the city is enormous. However, the majority of essential goods only meet 35% to 45% of market demand, with the remainder having to be imported from other provinces and cities within the country and from abroad.
Recently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised on and implemented a collaborative program between the Hanoi People's Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to build safe agricultural and food product chains. To date, Hanoi has linked with 43 provinces and cities to build over 1,500 safe agricultural and food product supply chains serving the consumption of Hanoi residents, and has also established nearly 160 safe agricultural and food product chains within the city.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, visited the booths showcasing regional OCOP products at an event held in Thanh Tri, Hanoi. |
By regularly organizing events to introduce OCOP products from various regions, Hanoi has become a "pioneer" in promoting and selling OCOP products from different areas. A series of famous OCOP products such as: Shrimp paste (Ha Long, Quang Ninh); Ba Lang fish sauce (Thanh Hoa); Lotus leaf tea with ginseng and lotus seeds; lotus seeds and longan (Hung Yen); dried seaweed (Ninh Thuan)... have been showcased at these events. Just the "Event to introduce OCOP products associated with the culture of Central and Central Highlands provinces" held in Thanh Tri district, Hanoi, saw over 100 booths bringing 1,000 OCOP products to the people of the capital city.
Hanoi leads the country in the number of OCOP products.
On the other hand, regarding the chain of stores, supermarkets, etc., that meet the shopping needs of the people, Mr. Hoa said that Hanoi currently has 29 shopping mall systems, 131 supermarkets, 455 markets, including 2 wholesale agricultural markets (Southern wholesale market, Minh Khai wholesale market) and 5 markets with wholesale characteristics; over 2,000 convenience stores; tens of thousands of grocery stores; over 400 e-commerce platforms, and multi-media sales channels (via phone, website, shopping application...).
“These are very favorable potential advantages for Hanoi to implement the One Commune One Product Program. From 2019 to the present, Hanoi has evaluated and classified 3,317 OCOP products (accounting for 21.3% of the whole country), including 6 five-star products, 22 potential five-star products, 1,571 four-star products, and 1,718 three-star products. Hanoi is currently the leading locality nationwide in the number of OCOP products,” emphasized the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment.
To ensure the sustainable development of OCOP products, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment requests the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and other central ministries and agencies to support the evaluation and ranking of Hanoi's 5-star OCOP products, taking into account local advantages and conditions; and to provide support for trade promotion and supply-demand linkages for Hanoi's OCOP products through trade fairs, product promotion, and introduction both domestically and internationally.

Sharing more information about the number of craft villages in Hanoi, the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment said that Hanoi currently has over 1,350 craft villages, accounting for 40% of the total number of craft villages nationwide.
“Especially in 2025, Hanoi is honored to have two craft villages recognized by the World Craft Council: Van Phuc Silk Weaving - Ha Dong and Bat Trang Ceramics as official members of the World Craft Creative City. These are the first two craft villages in Vietnam to be admitted by the World Craft Council. It is expected that in 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to coordinate with the World Craft Council to survey typical craft villages in the city and complete the dossiers to submit to the World Craft Council for recognition of 2-3 craft villages as official members of the World Craft Council,” Mr. Hoa said.
Regarding future development directions, the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment expressed that, in the coming time, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment hopes to continue receiving the attention and guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Hanoi People's Committee, the coordination of local departments and agencies in the city, and especially the coordination and linkage between Hanoi and provinces and cities nationwide to effectively promote and introduce OCOP products, agricultural products, and handicraft products.
