After a conflict with a classmate, a 9th grade student at Minh Lac Secondary School (Cam Lac Commune, Ha Tinh Province) was seriously beaten and died after more than a month of treatment. The incident has caused local authorities, the education sector and public opinion to pay special attention to the situation of school violence.

According to the report of Cam Lac Commune People's Committee, at about 11:25 a.m. on September 24, after school, a group of students from Minh Lac Secondary School including Nguyen Kham M. (class 9B), Thieu Quang H. (class 9D) and Vo Quoc A. (class 9B) had a fight with Le Van P. (18 years old, residing in Quang Trung 1 village), a student at Cam Xuyen Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center.
The initial cause was determined to be a personal conflict. During the fight, Nguyen Kham M. was knocked down, resulting in a broken femur and severe brain injury. The victim was taken to the Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment and then transferred to the National Children's Hospital.
Cam Lac Commune authorities coordinated with the Commune Police to quickly investigate and invite the students involved and their parents to work. The school and local authorities initially provided more than 27 million VND in support to the victim's family and stabilized the psychology of the students in the entire school. After more than a month of treatment, due to severe injuries, Nguyen Kham M. passed away on the evening of October 30.
Currently, Cam Lac Commune Police have completed the case file and transferred it to Ha Tinh Provincial Police for further handling according to the provisions of law.
Another disturbing incident occurred in Tran Phu Ward (Ha Tinh), when a clip recording a group of female students beating a friend and forcing her to kneel down and apologize went viral on social media in early November. In the viral clip, a group of female students repeatedly used their hands and feet to hit another female friend's head and stomach, while forcing her to kneel down and apologize.

Through verification, the victim was Vo Thi Ngoc Y. (student of class 9D, Thach Trung Secondary School). The person who directly beat her friend was Vo Yen Nh. (student of class 8C, same school).
According to Ngoc Y.’s family, the incident happened during the summer break, more than 2 months ago. At that time, a group of friends came to Y.’s house and called her out behind the school gate to “talk”. There, the conflict between Y. and a friend from the same village was “resolved” with violence, when this person invited Yen Nh. and some other friends to come and beat her up.
As a result, Ngoc Y. suffered a head injury and scratches all over her body. The victim’s family reported the incident to the police, and the two sides later reconciled. However, recently, the clip was posted online, causing Y. to panic and be afraid to go to class.
Speaking to reporters of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, Mr. Kieu Dinh Truyen, Principal of Thach Trung Secondary School, said that immediately after the clip went viral, the school's Board of Directors invited the parents and students involved to work. "The school asked the offending students to write a self-criticism, and at the same time increased homeroom teachers and school counselors to provide psychological support to the students who were harmed," Mr. Truyen said.
Two consecutive incidents in Ha Tinh show that school violence is an issue that needs attention at many levels, not just within the school. Early detection, timely reconciliation of conflicts and increased coordination between families, schools and authorities at all levels are considered necessary solutions to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
