Two brothers happily built houses next to each other but every day they had headaches because their two wives were "fighting" over every single thing.

My parents were fed up and said that if they had known, they would have cut the land into 3 parts and put me in the middle, so the two daughters-in-law would have nothing to look at and argue about!

Actually, there are many good things about the countryside, everyone. Fresh air, spacious land, cheap and clean food, airy roads, peaceful villages without the hustle and bustle of the city.

After graduating from university, I didn't want to stay in the city. I brought my degree back to live with my parents and found a job in the countryside.

My parents had 3 children. Above me were 2 twin brothers, the eldest named Tinh, the second named Tu. In the past, people used to tease me as a “wild duck” who was born too late, but my mother told me that they wanted to have more children because they wanted girls, but my 2 older brothers were too naughty so they just wanted to “throw them out” (!)

I am 5 years younger than my brothers and the most pampered person in the family. They always treat me like a little princess. I have only a younger sister so they give me everything. Other students are poor and have a hard life, but my brothers' parents give me money every week. Every time my brothers get paid, I get even more money, I can never spend it all.

The two brothers got married and had children, making my family's old house cramped. My parents decided to let them live separately, dividing the garden plot of several hundred square meters left by my grandparents. After the family meeting, they agreed to divide the plot of land into two equal pieces for the two brothers to inherit, and I was given the old house after my parents passed away.

The two brothers did not object, but I noticed that the two sisters-in-law did not seem very happy. It was obvious that the land they “received” from my parents was very large. The old house I was living in, including the garden, was only about 60 square meters. Yet, the sisters glared at me as if they wanted to swallow the whole house.

After completing the land procedures, the two brothers started building a new house. Luckily, my brothers used to fight when they were young, but when they grew up, they loved each other very much, so they decided to build a double house to show their affection. There was still a wall separating the land boundaries of each side, but the house plans were identical and there was even a path connecting the two houses.

My parents gave me land so my two brothers borrowed money to build their own nest. Luckily, in the countryside, labor and material costs were cheap, and they were building two houses at the same time, so they saved quite a bit. After 3 months, the two 3-storey "twin" houses were built next to each other, so prominent that the whole village was amazed.

My two brothers’ housewarming parties were held on the same day. The neighbors came to congratulate them in large numbers, eating and drinking happily all night long. Everyone praised the beautifully built houses, identical from the tiles to the railing columns. My brothers’ purpose in building “twin” houses was also to reduce gossip from outsiders, otherwise if they built them a little differently, people would make random comparisons.

However, no matter how much they thought, my two brothers never expected that building houses symmetrically opposite each other would cause unimaginable trouble. Outsiders were not jealous and gossiping, but the recent scandals were caused by the two sisters-in-law "fighting" with each other, which was miserable!

The thing is, the kitchen windows of Tu and Tinh's houses are opposite each other, separated only by a fence, so everything that happens on the dinner table of both families can be seen. Having only lived in the house for a month, my two precious sisters-in-law have already argued with each other 5 or 7 times. One day, Tu's wife started the fight, the next day, Tinh's wife sarcastically started the fight. Then Tu's family bought roasted veal and duck to eat for dinner, Tinh's wife twisted her words and said, "One person can't finish the food and the other can't find any left." Whenever they saw that the food next to them was more delicious and filling, the two sisters-in-law immediately felt uncomfortable, complaining that their family's meals were frugal while their siblings' meals were full of delicacies.

To be honest, I find this game of competing with each other not interesting at all, if not childish. Not only is it not enough to argue at home, the two sisters-in-law also come over to my parents to make a big fuss, each one bad-mouthing the other. My two twin brothers are stuck in the middle, unable to defend their wives or their siblings. No one dares to step in to judge for Tinh and Tu's wives because the reason they argue with each other is too "silly". In the same house, they don't like to compete with each other when it comes to meals, it's a real headache!

I told them to stop covering the kitchen window, or build a high fence so the sisters-in-law wouldn't have to look at each other and get annoyed. Each family's light would be bright, each family's food would be home, so they wouldn't have to look at each other and then cause trouble. The two of them secretly told each other from now on to keep a secret how much money they earned each month, lest the two naughty wives find out and compare them with each other. My parents sighed tiredly, saying that if they knew, they would have divided the land into 3, and let me come in between, and everything would be fine!
