The Doctor is a play that has been continuously appearing in the repertoire of the Vietnam Drama Theater for the past 10 years. Starting out as a play to commemorate playwright Luu Quang Vu, like many Luu Quang Vu plays at other theaters, The Doctor quickly became a play that had a market connection. It was directed by People's Artist Tuan Hai and played by box office star Xuan Bac. The maturity of one of the oldest theaters in the drama industry, combined with Xuan Bac's comedic talent, has brought the play to 400 performances in the past 10 years. People's Artist Xuan Bac, Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater, shared that the theater's Doctor reached the milestone of its 400th performance on November 16 at the Hanoi Opera House since it first appeared to the public 10 years ago. This production has also become a phenomenon on the national stage as tickets are always sold out every time it is re-released. That is why the work is always included in the theater's schedule in Hanoi and in the provinces.

Along with Doctor , the Vietnam Drama Theater also has many other comedies that run alternately every month. The latest are the two plays Mac cha su doi (Maxim's Restaurant Cave Girl) and Quan thanh tra . Both are classics. If "Maxim's Restaurant Cave Girl" is the pride of the French stage, then Quan thanh tra is a great work of Russian literature. Not simply comedies, both are great comedies, with an uncompromising satirical look at bad habits such as vulgarity, bureaucracy and corruption.

Luu Quang Vu's plays were also staged by the Youth Theater and extended their performances, including the return of many veteran comedians such as Duc Khue, Van Dung... However, the comedy series Doi Cuoi is still an important dish on the theater's menu. Originating from the expansion of "taste" when the stage in the late 1990s had too many classic plays, the Doi Cuoi skits gradually became familiar to the public. Currently, the new version of Doi Cuoi is expected to be released at the end of October.

Not only Benh Si and Mac Cha Su Doi , the theater's recent comedy productions have been challenging. The first challenge comes from the fact that the works are all difficult scripts. Not to mention that when staging these plays, the theater has had to work hard to arrange the cast. They have to calculate how to ensure that the artists have enough strength, act deeply, and also have enough distribution to take the play to many places. There are actors who are assigned roles, but then due to the schedules of other works, the roles are transferred to others. In some works, almost the entire leadership of the theater has to appear on stage, such as the comedy Quan Thanh Tra . In this play, both Director Xuan Bac and Deputy Director Kieu Minh Hieu appear on stage.

Regarding the new version of Doi Cuoi , information from Tuoi Tre Theater said that the skits were selected based on the criteria of both bringing laughter and being contemporary. The actors will work directly with director People's Artist Le Hung, who was previously the theater director and also directed Doi Cuoi for many years. The challenge of Doi Cuoi , as well as People's Artist Le Hung, is the new demands of the audience in the comedy viewing trend that has changed somewhat due to the impact of comedy on the internet.

However, the advantage of Doi Cuoi now is that it has a more abundant source of pure Vietnamese scripts, compared to the past when it sometimes used Chinese scripts, then used foreign scripts that were Vietnamized. People's Artist Le Hung himself and his fellow actors have created more scripts themselves. Interweaving comedy shows with political or social psychological plays is also a way for Tuoi Tre Theater to diversify its performances each week and each month, to serve a wider range of customers.

Thus, it can be seen that, although performed more often and continuously interwoven in the performance schedule, comedy stage works are carefully selected. Comedy is not simply for laughing and then that's it, to sell tickets, but the deep laughter, the laughter that dispels evil is still something that artists respect.
