While it is not unusual for the Royal Navy to recruit via Linkedin, the post of rear admiral responsible for nuclear deterrence is the highest-ranking position in the service to be advertised on Linkedin.

The job advert comes a day after The Telegraph reported that the Royal Navy has so few sailors that it has had to decommission two warships to run a new class of frigates.

Accordingly, the two frigates HMS Westminster and HMS Argyll will be decommissioned this year so that the crew can be transferred to the new Type 26 frigate expected to be put into operation from 2028.
